Our 11 Favourite Romantic Things To Do in Bali

Whether you’re on your honeymoon, celebrating a special anniversary, or just want to spend some quality time with your partner, Bali has lots of cute activities for couples to enjoy together, as we've discovered on our years of travels around the island.

To help you plan the perfect couples getaway, we’ve put together some of our favourite romantic things to do in Bali, from picnics and flower baths to jewellery classes and sunset movies on the beach.

1. Enjoy a couple's massage and flower bath

Flower baths have become synonymous with Bali. Other than being super Instagrammable, their soothing floral scents and soft petals create the perfect setting for some romance and relaxation with your other half.

Many spas in Bali offer special treatment packages for two, which usually include a couple's massage and body scrub, followed by a romantic flower bath. Our favourite experience like this was at Svaha Spa Bisma (part of the Kaamala Resort but also open to outside guests).

The spa itself is beautiful, with huge floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the jungles of Ubud outside. We opted for full-body massages, followed by a mud scrub using volcanic mud from Mount Agung that left our skin feeling smooth and rejuvenated.

The treatment ended with a soak in a frangipani and rose petal flower bath while we sipped herbal tea together and enjoyed a few more moments of peaceful bliss.

2. Watch a movie under the stars

For a romantic evening in Bali, many bars and restaurants host open-air cinema nights where you can snuggle up on a beanbag or daybed and watch a movie together underneath the stars.

3. Book a romantic stay in a bamboo villa

Escape into nature and enjoy some alone time together by staying in one of Bali’s beautiful bamboo villas. You’ll find them all across the island, but Ubud and Sidemen offer the best of the best, often with stunning rice terrace views.

Many villas have features like hammock nets, outdoor bathtubs, or private plunge pools, which can make the experience feel extra special. Here are the best bamboo villas we’ve stayed in as a couple:

4. Make matching jewellery at a silver workshop

You’ll find silver-making studios all across Bali, but the areas best known for it are Ubud and Sidemen, where skilled craftspeople have long been making jewellery by hand to sell at local markets.

Many of these studios offer classes and workshops where you can make your own jewellery using traditional methods. Emily and I have tried this before, turning silver pellets into handmade rings that we now wear all the time.

Everything is done by hand, so expect a fairly labour-intensive class where you melt, mould, hammer, and polish your romantic Bali keepsake – don’t worry, help is available if you need it!

We decided to make our own rings, but you could make it even more romantic by crafting them for each other. Our rings were quite simple and took around an hour to make, but more complex designs could take longer.

5. Have a picnic in a greenhouse at Rumah Gemuk

Situated in the cooler highlands of Northern Bali overlooking Lake Beratan, Rumah Gemuk Bali is a towering glass building filled with greenery and colourful flowers. The Brigerton-esque venue has majestic chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and spiral staircases leading to the upper floors.

While primarily a wedding venue, on other days it opens its doors to the public as one of Bali's most unique restaurants. There’s regular table seating on the upper floor, but we opted for a romantic picnic in their lovely downstairs lawn area, surrounded by lush greenery.

The restaurant’s picnic set menu includes a simple 3-course menu and drinks for just 265,000 IDR ⓘ for two. It comes in a proper picnic basket on a ready-laid blanket with plush pillows.

There’s a small menu of Asian and Western dishes to pick from, including nasi goreng, chicken wrap, and mac and cheese. While not the best food we've had in Bali, it’s still great value for the fun setting and beautiful location.

The greenhouse restaurant is very popular and can be closed for special occasions, so book ahead to avoid disappointment. We've previously visited without booking and were turned away as it was full.

Of course, you don’t want to go all the way to Bedugul just for a picnic. So, we’d recommend combining it with a few other couple's activities in the area, such as taking a boat ride around Lake Beratan and exploring the Bali Botanic Gardens. Find out more in our guide to Bedugul.

6. Enjoy sunset cocktails with a view

Bali’s sunsets just hit differently. There’s nothing better than enjoying a glass of wine or a fresh coconut with your partner while watching the sun dip below the horizon.

Any west-facing beach makes a good spot to watch the sunset in Bali, but here are some of our favourite places:

7. Book a private cooking class

Working side-by-side in the kitchen is far more romantic when you’ve got an expert chef leading the way and no washing up to do after. There are loads of incredible cooking classes in Bali where you can learn a variety of tasty local recipes to take back home with you.

Most classes we've tried have been group classes, but some also offer private cooking experiences if you're looking for something more intimate. Here are a few classes that are ideal for couples:

8. Start the day with a floating breakfast

While not the most practical way to eat, a floating breakfast is undeniably romantic. Hotel rooms or villas with private pools often offer this as an add-on package. Some of our favourites have been at Shore Amora Canggu, Wapa Di Ume Sidemen, and Kaamala Resort Ubud.

Take our advice and opt for pastries and small bites rather than full dishes like avocado toast, which are notoriously difficult to cut up and eat from a floating tray.

If your accommodation doesn't offer this experience, here are some other options:

9. Book a romantic private dinner experience

Many of Bali's top hotels and resorts offer romantic private dining experiences onsite, where you and your partner can enjoy an intimate dinner surrounded by flower decorations and candlelight.

Being on the pricier side, these dinners are perfect for a honeymoon or even an engagement. But they’re also ideal for a special anniversary or simply treating your partner to a memorable night together.

Romantic dinners usually include a set 3-course menu, with optional wine or cocktails. We recently had the most romantic private dinner at Amora Villas Ubud, which included a delicious Indonesian feast with a view over the lush surrounding valley. But we've seen similar experiences at hotels across Bali.

10. Or visit one of Bali's top restaurants

If you prefer getting out for a classic dinner date night, Bali has no shortage of fantastic romantic restaurants that are perfect for a special occasion. Here are some we recommend for different budgets:

11. Spend a night at the Bubble Hotel

Down on the Bukit Peninsula, the Bubble Hotel is one of the most incredible and most romantic places we’ve ever stayed in Bali. It's actually how we celebrated our very first Valentine’s Day together in Bali.

Hidden along secluded Nyang Nyang Beach, the unique little hotel features just five air-conditioned bubble rooms, each set within its own private beachfront garden with a cosy seating area, small infinity pool, swing, and netted terrace overlooking the ocean.

We received a private transfer (by bike) down the cliff to reach the tucked-away accommodation. Breakfast can be delivered directly to your bubble and even served on a floating tray in the pool.

To take the romance to the next level, you can choose add-ons such as a flower bath, an ocean-front dinner, or an evening bonfire and marshmallows. We opted for the latter, which we enjoyed under the stars with nothing but the sound of the ocean and the crackling of the fire – a very romantic evening.

The Bubble Hotel isn't the most convenient of places to stay as it’s pretty far from everything, so we’d only recommend 1-2 nights here for the experience. For a more detailed look, see our full review of the Bubble Hotel.
