One of my absolute favourite things about Bali is how easy it is to escape the buzz and treat yourself to some serious relaxation and pampering.

From traditional Balinese massages with rice field views in Ubud to luxurious clifftop spas in Nusa Dua or full wellness days with saunas and ice baths in Canggu, the island is full of ways to unwind and recharge.

As someone who gets massages and treatments far too often (while regularly forcing Kieren to come enjoy them with me), I’ve made it my mission to explore all of Bali’s best spas and wellness centres - and I’m far from done! Here’s my guide to some of the top spots for relaxation on the island.

Best Day Spas in Bali

1. Bodyworks Spa

Bodyworks-Spa-Seminyak-above.jpg

Where? Seminyak

Bodyworks has been a Seminyak staple since 1994, making it one of the oldest and most established day spas in Bali. Despite its long history, it's remained a favourite thanks to a major renovation that revealed a gorgeous and extremely photogenic Moroccan-inspired design.

Now the stunning spa is super popular among photographers and Instagrammers who want to snap some photos in its all-pink courtyard or on the swinging daybeds under Moorish arches.

Even with its new Insta-fame, Bodyworks hasn’t forgotten its roots and still offers some of the best and most reliable traditional Balinese treatments on the island.

You can't go wrong with the Balinese massage, which uses blends of essential oils from Indonesian spices and flowers. I thoroughly enjoyed my massage here and liked that it ended with the option for a hot shower or bath.

You can also try their signature "Exfoliation Massage" (mandi lulur), which includes a traditional Balinese massage followed by an exfoliating scrub using traditional Javanese ‘lulur’ paste, containing turmeric, sandalwood, cinnamon, and rice powder, and a relaxing flower bath.

Prices at Bodyworks are higher than small, local massage parlors, but cheaper than most luxury resort spas in the area. Just make sure to book in advance as slots are limited and the spa is extremely popular!

2. Spring Spa

Spring-Spa-Lembongan-Bali.jpg

Where? Canggu, Seminyak, Uluwatu, Nusa Lembongan

Spring Spa is another long-standing Bali day spa, now with several locations in tourist hotspots across the island, including Canggu, Seminyak, and Uluwatu.

Started in New Zealand, Spring is more of a stylish boutique wellness space than a traditional Balinese spa. Each of its spa locations is modern, minimalist, and chic, with a clean, all-white decor, simple boho details, and running water features.

The spa offers various luxurious treatments, including massages, facials, and body scrubs, using international, high-end beauty brands and modern spa technologies.

I've had numerous treatments at Spring over the last few years and have always had a fantastic experience. The "Spring Signature" is still one of the best massages I've ever had in Bali, and I’d recommend it to anyone who wants a massage that’s both extremely relaxing and actually works out the knots.

I often pick up quality hair and beauty products from Spring's on-site shop too. While not the cheapest, they do have some of the best sulfate-free hair products, which are much-needed with Bali's hard water issue.

The spas also offer some express beauty treatments, like nails, waxing, and haircuts, but I've yet to try these. I prefer to go to specialist salons.

3. Goldust Spa

Goldust-Spa-Canggu-Bali.jpg

Where? Canggu

Goldust is my go-to for the absolute best facials in Bali. Seriously, they're AMAZING! Evidenced by the fact I can be found here waaayyyy too often - how many facials is too many!?

The spa is best known for its luxurious "24k Gold Facial", which includes a cleanse, exfoliation, peel, steam, massage, cryo, and, of course, their famous 24k gold face mask (selfie compulsory!). It may cost 1,450,000 IDR , but it's definitely worth it for the sofest, glowiest skin ever!

For something a little more affordable, the "Botanical Cleanse Facial" is just 500,000 IDR and still an amazing and unbelievably relaxing experience. My friends and I often go for this one.

The spa also offers a wide range of great massages and body scrubs. If you’re looking for something quicker, check out the "Poolside Lounge Massages," a relaxing foot or upper body treatment that takes place on a plush recliner in a communal space overlooking the pool.

Another thing I love about Goldust is the poolside relaxation space where you can enjoy a few more moments of calm with a complimentary cup of ginger tea and some fresh watermelon after your treatment. Much better than being rushed straight out onto the busy streets of Canggu outside.

4. Svaha Spa

Svaha-Spa-Bisma-Ubud-Kier.jpg

Where? Ubud, Canggu, Seminyak, Sanur, Jimbaran, Uluwatu

Svaha Spa is another luxurious and reliable spa chain with 17 locations across Bali's popular tourist hotspots. Most of the spas are connected to resorts and villa complexes, but are open to outside guests too.

Svaha is rooted in Balinese tradition, and many of the spa's treatments incorporate Balinese rituals, herbal remedies, and spiritual elements. Massages and treatments can be paired with sound healing, chakra readings, yoga, and meditation sessions to create an ultimate wellness package.

The spas are often set in peaceful, natural environments with rice fields, jungle, or river views - especially the ones surrounding Ubud.

During our stay at the Kaamala Resort, one of our absolute favourite hotels in Ubud, we got to enjoy a luxurious couples spa package, with a Balinese massage, full body volcanic mud scrub, and romantic flower bath experience at the connecting Svaha Spa Bisma.

Sitting on the edge of a valley on the outskirts of central Ubud, our massage room overlooked the jungle and river below, making it feel like a peaceful retreat in nature while still very close to town. The experience was super relaxing and one of the most romantic couple's activities we've had in a while.

Book some of Svaha Spa's other locations, including Svaha Spa Uluwatu (ocean view), Svaha Spa Sanur, Svaha Spa Canggu (Batu Bolong), and Svaha at The Jungle Club Ubud.

5. The Apurva Spa by The Kempinski

Where? Nusa Dua

The Apurva Kempinski in Nusa Dua is not only one of the island's most luxurious five-star hotels, but it's also where you'll find one of Bali's best spas.

With an elegant Balinese design and gorgeous ocean views, the high-end Apurva Spa has a philosophy of holistic healing that aims to create a harmony between your inner beauty and outer beauty, inspired by ancient Indonesian traditions.

The highlight here is their signature healing packages, each tailored to your personal needs and stage of life. They draw on traditional wellness techniques and local herbal remedies to create a truly holistic experience. If you prefer something simpler, you can also book individual treatments like massages and facials.

We visited the spa for their signature "Awakening the Chakra Spirit" package, which aims to heal blocked energies and realign your seven major chakras.

Our afternoon began with a sound healing session and chakra reading, which was the perfect way to switch off and settle into the experience. After that, we changed into traditional attire and made our way to a small temple on the beach, where a Balinese priest guided us through a private Melukat purification ritual.

To finish, we enjoyed a personalised Balinese massage that left us feeling completely relaxed and renewed. The unique wellness session was the perfect blend of luxurious pampering and cultural immersion.

6. Glow Spa by Mandiri Resort

Glo-Spa-Mandiri-Bali.jpg

Where? Legian

Another of our favourite resort spas in Bali has to be Glow Spa at the Mandiri. The popular beachfront resort's on-site spa is definitely one of the best and most luxurious in the Seminyak, Legian, and Kuta areas.

The traditional spa offers luxurious treatments devised from both Asian and Western-inspired traditions. We enjoyed the traditional Balinese massage and loved every blissful minute of it.

Each of the spacious treatment rooms also has a private Balinese garden with a cosy daybed and large bathtub where you can enjoy a romantic flower bath and a relaxing cup of tea after your treatment.

The spa's signature packages are great value for money, starting at just 795,000 IDR for a floral foot bath, Balinese massage, and body scrub (2 hours). Just make sure to book a couple of days in advance.

Best Wellness Centres/Thermal Spas in Bali

7. The Istana, Uluwatu

The-Istana-Spa-Ulu-entrance.jpg

The Istana is a luxurious clifftop wellness retreat in Uluwatu with a large infinity pool, cutting-edge spa and wellness facilities, and a beautiful yoga and meditation centre with breathtaking ocean views.

Even if you don't want to stay at the retreat, you can book a spa session to enjoy access to the pool, saunas, sound dome, hot and cold plunge pools, and the stunning clifftop lawn where you can relax in the sunshine.

You can also enhance your experience with a yoga class or Biohacking treatments like cryotherapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and sensory deprivation tanks.

Spa sessions last 2 hours each, with prices starting from 200,000 IDR up to 500,000 IDR , depending on the time of day.

The Istana is a technology-free zone (hence our lack of photos inside), making it ideal for a few hours of digital detox. Although we’ll admit, this took us a little getting used to!

8. The Udara, Canggu

The-Udara-Canggu-plunge-pool-em.jpg

Tucked away in the quiet area of Seseh in north Canggu, the Udara Yoga Retreat and Spa is home to a unique thermal spa that feels like stepping into a mystical fairytale world.

The spa's unusual design blends nature with a touch of fantasy, with a series of hot and cold pools surrounded by winding stone walkways, hidden caverns, small waterfalls, and intricate carvings of animals and mythical creatures.

A giant turtle statue keeps watch over the spa, spouting water into the main pool, which has underwater music and a swim-up bar serving fresh juices, smoothies, teas, and more. You’ll also find a sauna, herbal steam room, ice bath, and a cosy meditation room hidden in the cave chambers.

Despite how cool it is, we recently had the spa completely to ourselves on a quiet weekday afternoon and spent a blissful few hours unwinding in total peace, soaking in the thermal waters.

You can combine your spa visit with one of the Udara’s daily yoga classes or a sound healing session for the ultimate wellness experience. Emily has done aerial yoga here before, which is a lot of fun and held in a beautiful upstairs yoga shala with ocean views.

While guests of the retreat can use the spa facilities for free, outside visitors can get a day pass for just 300,000 IDR .

Every week, the spa hosts its famous Udara Sunday Festival, a full-day event which features yoga, dance, sound healing, a healthy brunch, and a day pass to the pools and sauna facilities for 725,000 IDR .

9. Ananda Bathhouse, Sidemen

Ananda-Bathhouse-Sidemen.jpg

Hidden away in beautiful Sidemen, Ananda Bathhouse is a cosy new spa and wellness centre connected to the luxury Samanvaya Resort. It has a gorgeous thermal suite, private treatment rooms, and calming spaces to relax on a grey day in the mountains.

The bathhouse has three small pools at varying temperatures, from an 8°C (46°F) cold plunge up to a toasty 40°C (104°F) jacuzzi, as well as a rain shower, sauna, steam room, and quiet relaxation area.

Ananda-Bathhouse-Sidemen-kier.jpg
Ananda-Bathhouse-Sidemen-sauna.jpg

Our favourite feature was the sauna, which had a huge floor-to-ceiling window looking out across the Sidemen valley. Next to the sauna is a Hammam steam room. Try the ‘sud & mud’ kit and apply black soap and volcanic clay to rejuvenate your skin in the steam (extra fee).

Access to the bathhouse costs 500,000 IDR for a 2-hour slot. Guests staying at Samanvaya get a discounted rate of 300,000 IDR . We’d recommend booking ahead, as capacity is limited to keep the space peaceful.

10. AMO Spa, Canggu

Amo-Spa-Canggu-Bali-Kier.jpg

AMO Spa is another popular wellness centre in Canggu that has less of a spiritual vibe than the Udara and caters more towards the area's fitness (read: gym-bro) crowd.

The thermal spa has a large outdoor swimming pool, surrounded by several saunas, a Turkish hammam, a steam room, multiple ice baths, and a jacuzzi. It’s a great place to recharge and reset, especially if you’ve been surfing or training hard, and to enjoy Canggu's social vibe away from the bars.

We usually get a day pass to use all of AMO’s facilities for 300,000 IDR . There’s a small weights area for a quick workout and private treatment rooms for massages and beauty treatments. To top it all off, there’s even a cafe serving healthy smoothies and tasty food, so it's easy to stick around here all day.

If you’re staying a little longer in Canggu, a multi-entry package or monthly membership for AMO can save you a lot of money.

11. ATMOS, Uluwatu

ATMOS-Ulu-spa.jpg

ATMOS is a peaceful little spa and social steam club in the heart of Uluwatu, with two small heated pools, ice baths, steam rooms, and several relaxation areas in a hidden courtyard.

The wellness centre is best known for its regular guided steam rituals, which take place every 30 mins to an hour. Sessions are led by a skilled guide and create a unique steam experience using aromas and varying heat intensity. We even joined one session where we were massaged by leafy branches.

Every Sunday evening, ATMOS runs its famous Soundsteam event, with after-dark steam rituals, chilled live music, and guided group relaxation practices, creating a social and meaningful atmosphere.

The thermal/wellness area at ATMOS is only small, so you only need a couple of hours here. They also have a spa with massages and treatments.
