Jalan Batu Bolong is the main street in Canggu and the heart of the action, lined with numerous fantastic brunch cafes, restaurants, and bars, like the popular Milk & Madu and Black Sand Brewery.
Batu Bolong Beach is a popular spot for both surfing and sunset views, with many casual warungs and colorful beanbags on the sand. The beachfront area is also Canggu's nightlife hub, with buzzing venues like Old Man’s, Mexicola, and Sandbar.
To the south, Jalan Nelayan has a great selection of health-conscious cafes, including Doppio, Kynd Cafe, and Superfoods. To the north, Jalan Munduk Catu has recently undergone a big transformation, now home to several new hotels, trendy restaurants, and the lively Desa Kitsuné entertainment complex.
A couple of streets down, Echo Beach is another slightly quieter part of Canggu. Known for its laid-back vibe, the area features beachfront bars like La Brisa, stylish boutique shops, and the upscale COMO Uma resort.

These four streets make up the heart of Canggu and the best area to stay for first-time visitors, with a wide variety of accommodation options, from affordable homestays and lively backpacker hostels to luxury hotels.
The Batu Bolong area is popular among digital nomads and long-term backpackers thanks to its many coworking spots and active social scene. There's a great selection of modern gyms, yoga shalas, and padel courts, ideal for anyone looking to balance wellness with a social atmosphere.
The area is fairly walkable (for Bali), and shortcuts connect the main roads, making it easy to get around. It’s perfect if you want to be in the middle of everything, but keep in mind it can get noisy and busy, especially in high season.
Hotels in Batu Bolong:
Something for everyone: The Soul House - A stylish complex of hotel rooms, dorm rooms, and private apartments, with two swimming pools, a bar, a terrace, a wellness spa, and a coworking space.
Our Review: The Soul House

- Stylish boho-chic decor
- Variety of room types available
- Free on-site coworking
- No coffee making facilities
Just off central Batu Bolong, The Soul House has a cool, boho-chic vibe, with rattan furnishings, earthy tones, and cute Balinese touches. If it's great Instagram photos you're after, this is the place to stay in Canggu.
We stayed in a standard double room, which had a modern en-suite bathroom and terrace. Although small, the room was bright, clean, and cozy with an extremely comfortable bed.
Backpacker hostel: The Farm - Lively, modern hostel on Batu Bolong with dorm rooms, large semi-outdoor bathrooms, a guest kitchen, and a tasty pancake breakfast. Chilled, social vibe by day, with people hanging out by the two pools, while the night gets much livelier with group dinners, drinking games, and parties. Emily stayed here on her first trip to Bali.
Budget: Putu Homestay - Budget-friendly, locally-owned homestay on Batu Bolong with private rooms, a large swimming pool, and guest kitchens, just a 5-minute walk to the beach.
Our Review: Putu Homestay

- Super affordable
- Walkable location on main street
- Friendly staff and dogs
- Basic facilities
Putu Homestay is a large, family-owned Balinese homestay on Batu Bolong that became our home away from home during our first couple of years in Bali.
The modern homestay is in an ideal location on central Batu Bolong, with numerous cafes, restaurants, and spas within a few minutes' walk.

Pererenan
Best place to stay for: Peaceful villa stays and long-termers

Pros
- Modern villas and boutique hotels spread among rice terraces
- Many elegant and upscale restaurants and bars
- More peaceful atmosphere
Cons
- Challenging to get around without a bike/scooter
- Further from attractions of south Bali
Pererenan is a peaceful yet rapidly developing area located just north of central Canggu, where luxury villas and boutique hotels are springing up among lush rice fields and stretches of open land.
Jalan Pantai Pererenan is the well-developed main street, with stylish clothing stores, luxury spas, and some of Canggu's best restaurants, including favourites like Shelter, Mostly, and ORIGEN. On Pererenan Beach, you'll find popular sunset spot, Sol Rooftop. Stay close to the beach if you want to walk around.

The next street up, Jalan Babadan, is a mix of budget guesthouses and sleek new private villas, ideal for a peaceful getaway. But other than places to stay, the road remains relatively remote and quiet (except Le Bajo pool club, which we love!). If you're staying here, you'll definitely want a scooter to get around.
Pererenan is one of our favorite areas to stay in Canggu and is popular with expats and digital nomads looking to stick around long-term. It’s ideal for a relaxing escape in one of the area's luxury villas. However, its relatively removed location makes it a less convenient base for exploring the rest of the island.
Hotels in Pererenan:
Luxury: Shore Amora - Modern design resort with a range of stylish rooms, suites, and pool villas in a quiet location close to Pererenan Beach.
Our Review: Shore Amora

- Stylish, modern resort with private pool villas
- Close to Pererenan Beach
- Mosquitos at night
Shore Amora is a distinctive adults-only resort near Pererenan Beach with cozy suites and spacious one-bedroom villas spread among lush rice terraces.
The resort has a unique style that blends brutalist architecture and minimalist design with boho and Balinese elements.
Luxury villas: Baliwood Villas - Ultra-modern, luxury villas with private rooftop terraces and pools on Jalan Babadan, just a 5-minute walk to the beach. Book one bedroom / two bedroom / three bedroom.
Berawa
Best place to stay for: Accessibility and big beach clubs

Pros

- Wide variety of cafes and restaurants
- Good for affordable luxury
- Most accessible to other resort areas in south Bali
Cons
- Fairly spread out over several streets
- Traffic
Berawa is the most developed area of Canggu, located between Batu Bolong to the north and the busy resort area of Seminyak to the south. Centered around Jalan Pantai Berawa but spread out among the surrounding streets, it's packed with modern cafes, restaurants, shops, and spas.
Berawa is home to several of the biggest and most popular beach clubs in Canggu, including FINNS Beach Club, Atlas Super Club, Morabito Art Villa, and Café del Mar. Staying in this area also gives you easier access to the large nightclubs of Seminyak, perfect for continuing a night out.
