Top Things To Do
1. Enjoy craft beer at Black Sands Brewery

Based right in the heart of Canggu, Black Sands is one of Bali's best craft breweries. They have a huge taproom, with a spacious beer garden and excellent food and drink deals every day of the week.
The beer garden is full of long tables that are perfect for bigger groups. If you want one of the smaller private tables, it may be best to book in advance. Or you can join one of the shared tables and make some new friends!
Friday is the best night to visit Black Sands. This is when locals and tourists descend on the brewery to let loose after a busy week. There's a DJ until midnight, and it gets pretty lively.
The food is worth mentioning too. It’s not the cheapest in town, but it is delicious. And it goes well with a craft beer. We’d recommend the burgers or pizzettes. But make sure to save room for dessert because their hot chip cookie with gelato is heaven on a plate!
Our Go-To Bali Insurance
We’ve used SafetyWing for over 2 years while exploring Bali and beyond and honestly couldn’t imagine traveling without it. It’s simple, reliable, and perfect for digital nomads like us.
We love that it:

2. Make new friends at Sa’Mesa Dinner Club

Sa’Mesa is an Italian dinner club in Canggu that is a must-do if you love tasty Italian food and social family-style dinners.
The food here is a spectacle in its own right, with 18 dishes split over four courses. The menu changes regularly, but ours included the likes of focaccia, grilled veggies, pasta, risotto, seafood, and more.
However, it’s the fun and lively communal atmosphere that really makes Sa’Mesa THE place to go in Canggu at night.

At the dinner party, everyone sits together around two large tables and dines communally. It's an ideal setting to make new friends, assisted by the free-flow limoncello (it’s strong!). It’s not uncommon to end the night dancing on the table to cheesy hits. Our group even went out partying together after dinner.
We’d recommend visiting by yourself or in small groups to make the most of the experience. You should book at least a week in advance as it quickly fills up. Fridays and Saturdays are the liveliest sessions, so choose these if you want a big party. Opt for the indoor table if you can – you’ll appreciate the air con!
3. Go bar hopping through Canggu

There are more bars in Canggu than we could possibly count. From upmarket speakeasy-style bars with meticulously crafted cocktails to chilled sports pubs and energetic beach clubs playing cheesy 90s and 00s hits.
These are a few spots that we regularly visit when bar-hopping through Canggu:
Baliwood - A cool, laid-back spot to start the night. They have a menu of craft beers and cocktails with plenty of games to play, including Jenga, darts, beer pong, and gaming consoles with Mario Kart. Don't forget to say hello to Bali and Messi, the two dogs that live upstairs and are often found hanging out in the bar.
Old Man's - A Canggu staple! Old Man's was one of the first bars to open back when Canggu was just a small surf town. And it continues to be one of the most popular spots in town every night of the week. The large bar has a huge open-air dance floor, nightly DJs, and affordable drinks deals. On Wednesdays, they host a beer pong tournament that anyone can enter (sign-up starts at 6pm). There’s a big cash prize for the winners.

Motel Mexicola - The newest bar on Batu Bolong’s nightlife scene. Sitting directly opposite Old Mans, Motel Mexicola is a colourful Mexican-themed restaurant that turns into a lively bar/club as the evening goes on, fuelled by copious amounts of tequila. Dancing on the tables at Mexicola is a rite of passage on a night out in Canggu.
Sandbar - Of course, any night out in Canggu HAS to end with Sandbar. This unique “club” takes over the beach at the end of Batu Bolong, with waves sweeping across your feet as the tide comes in. Expect dance remixes of classic tunes, cheap drinks, and a super lively vibe. It costs 100,000 IDR ⓘ entry, which includes your first drink. Keep in mind that the party doesn’t get going here until at least 1-2am (when the other bars shut).
4. Paint ceramics at Klay Bar

Klay Bar is a brand new ceramic painting bar in Canggu, where you choose a mug, plate, or bowl and paint it with a design of your choice. Don't worry if you're not particularly creative (like us) - they provide plenty of design inspiration to get you started.
There's also a well-stocked bar with everything from coffee and juice to beers, wines, and cocktails (the Hugo Spritz was great!), as well as Mediterranean-style sharing plates. We visited for a cute date night activity, but it would also be great for a fun family activity or girls' night with a twist.

Klay Bar is open until 11pm every day. Being a small bar with only a handful of tables, it's best to book ahead.
Keep in mind that the ceramics must be kiln-fired for the glossy finish, so you won't get them back immediately. Ours took around 3 days before we could collect them, but it was worthwhile as now they're our favourite mugs.
5. Laugh your socks off at a stand-up comedy night

With a range of international and local comedians calling Bali home, there's a growing stand-up comedy scene in Canggu, with several shows each week. Here are some that we've been to and enjoyed:
Secret Comedy Club - Held every Thursday at a secret venue (spoiler: it's Wings restaurant), this intimate comedy night centres around audience interaction, so go with an open mind and be ready to join in. While some parts were funnier than others, we had lots of laughs and made some new friends.
Actually Funny Folks - On Fridays, local group "Actually Funny Folks" take over a local venue for their weekly comedy night, with a diverse mix of comedians, from seasoned pros to newcomers, testing the water. There's no entry fee, but it’s worth having some cash on hand to leave a tip if you enjoyed the show. Check their Instagram for upcoming venues.
6. Hunt out Canggu's hidden cocktail bars

If you know where to look, you’ll find a secret world of low-key speakeasies and cocktail bars in Canggu, with a more exclusive and upmarket atmosphere than the lively clubs of Batu Bolong Beach.
These are often hidden at the back of restaurants or behind unassuming entrances, so you're unlikely to stumble across them without knowing. Here are some that we love:
The Mail Room - A cool speakeasy bar with a hidden entrance that requires a secret key to enter. The intimate bar offers elegant yet elaborately presented cocktails (think bathtubs, test tubes, and dry ice) and nightly live jazz music.
Cloak & Dagger - Hidden above a ramen bar, this unqiue speakeasy is themed around true crime and serial killers. Each of their signature cocktails is inspired by a famous killer, while the bar is filled with crime novels, (fake) body parts, and a mugshot board.

The Shady Fox – This small cocktail bar in Pererenan has an intimate speakeasy vibe with a retro gambling theme. The cocktails here are fantastic, using their own distilled spirits and created by excellent mixologists.
Segno – The vibe and drinks at Segno are inspired by the classy cocktail bars in the Ginza district of Tokyo. The mixologists really know what they’re doing with a menu offering inventive variations of traditional favourites along with their own distinctive recipes. Prices are quite high, but the experience justifies every penny.
7. Catch a drag show at Inklusiv Warung

Inklusiv Warung is a beloved Canggu restaurant with a strong social purpose to create a more inclusive workplace. Many of the staff are from deaf, queer, disabled, and other marginalized communities in Indonesia.
And if supporting a socially minded business wasn’t enough, they also host three drag nights per week. You can enjoy drag trivia on Wednesdays, drag tarot card readings on Fridays, and drag theatre on Sundays, where classic Broadway performances get a unique twist.
You can buy a ticket online for their drag nights and get the full ticket price back as food and drink credits. Even if you can't make the drag nights, the food is tasty and affordable, so we recommend stopping by and supporting them anyway.

8. Watch a movie under the stars at an open-air cinema

Canggu may not have any big cineplexes showing the latest blockbusters, but you can catch a classic movie on an open-air screen. Even better in our opinion.
With a comfy beanbag, a few snacks, a fresh coconut, and the starry night skies above your head, it’s the perfect chilled-out evening activity in Canggu.
Currently, several venues offer movie nights in Canggu:
Alternative Beach – Mondays and Thursdays at 7pm – Check Instagram for the latest movies and DM for booking.
Times Beach Warung – Every other Tuesday at 7pm - Usually surf-themed movies but can vary. Beach beanbags are given on a first come basis and it gets super busy, so arrive early. Check Instagram stories for upcoming movies.

Maja Spa - Wednesday at 7pm - Held indoors, but still a cool experience. Costs 195,000 IDR ⓘ including popcorn and one drink. See Instagram for movie and booking link.
Yema Kitchen – Wednesdays at 7pm – Send them a DM on Instagram for details and booking.
IZE Cangu Hotel - Fridays at 7:30pm - Movie is shown on the hotel's rooftop. Anyone is welcome and you get a free bowl of popcorn. See Instagram for the movie.
9. Treat yourself to an evening of pampering

Despite how busy and chaotic the area has become lately, Canggu is home to some of Bali’s top spas and massage parlours, many of which stay open late. Perfect for treating yourself to some evening pampering and relaxation.
Many places offer traditional massages for as little as 140,000 IDR ⓘ for an hour. These are a few of our favourite spas that are open until late in Canggu:
Spring Spa – Chic and contemporary luxury day spa with a peaceful river running through the middle and a huge range of treatments on offer. One of the best massages you’ll get in Canggu. Although you will pay a little more than most other spas in the area. Open until 9pm daily.
Golddust – Best facials in Canggu! Offers romantic couples spa packages which include treatments, champagne, and nibbles. Open until 9pm.
Carla Spa – A super affordable local spot in the heart of Batu Bolong that’s popular for its full-body massages and foot massages. Cheap, cheerful, and you don’t need to pre-book. Just walk in! Open until 11pm.
10. Enjoy an evening recovery session at AMO Spa

AMO Spa is a holistic wellness centre on central Batu Bolong. It's the perfect place for a peaceful evening of relaxation and rejuvenation after a few nights of hitting Canggu's clubs a little too hard.
AMO's bathhouse is open until 10pm and features an outdoor swimming pool, saunas, a steam room, a Turkish Hammam, ice baths, plunge pools, and a jacuzzi. The on-site spa offers a range of wellness and beauty treatments. There's even a cafe so you can grab dinner or a drink by the pool while you relax.
You can get a day pass to use AMO's facilities for 350,000 IDR ⓘ. Or if you're sticking around Canggu a little longer and plan to visit regularly, a multi-entry package or monthly membership can save you a lot of money.
11. Party at Canggu’s top nightclubs

In addition to the more rustic open-air beach bars mentioned earlier, Canggu has a few indoor nightclubs where you can party until the early hours. These mostly play underground music, but you'll find other genres on certain nights.
Desa Kitsuné - New kid on the block, Desa Kitsuné has quickly become one of the go-to party spots on Tuesday and Friday nights. Owned by Savaya (one of Uluwatu's top beach clubs), you can expect some big names, with the beach club's headline DJs sticking around to play the nightclub too. It's not the cheapest spot, with the entrance alone costing 250,000 IDR ⓘ.
Vault – Vault is a large underground club that’s open five nights a week, each with a different genre of music, including R&B, Reggaeton, and Techno. Check their Instagram to find out about upcoming parties.
The nightclubs in Canggu draw both locals and tourists, making it a fantastic opportunity to meet new people. Remember not to arrive too early as the party doesn’t start until pretty late here.
12. Play pool at Brooklyn Billiards

For a more laid-back evening in Canggu, head to Brooklyn Billiards where you can grab a cue and enjoy a casual game of pool.
Located above ChaiChitai tea house on Batu Bolong (here), the venue has half a dozen pool tables in a large New York loft-style pool bar, complete with Industrial chic decor and leather sofas.
Tables cost 100,000 IDR ⓘ per hour, plus a minimum spend of 200,000 IDR on food and drink at the bar. This can easily be met, especially if there’s a big group of you sharing a table. Tables can also be hired for half an hour at half the price.
The club is welcoming to all abilities. The staff helped set up each game and gave us some tips for improving our technique. You can book a table online, but they also accept walk-ins if there’s space. We just managed to get the last available table on a weekday evening, so we suggest trying to book.
13. Catch the weekly parties

While some bars and nightclubs in Canggu are lively most nights of the week, certain venues are known for their weekly parties:
Monday nights at Luigi's Hot Pizza - Between 8-10pm, the tables are cleared away as Luigi's Italian restaurant turns into Canggu's biggest party. There’s a 100,000 IDR ⓘ entrance fee after 8pm, so we like to book a table for 7pm to enjoy some of Canggu's best pizza, then stay for the party after. Book ahead as many people have the same idea.
Monday nights at The Mesa - A stylish Monday-night alternative is COCORICO, which takes over The Mesa in Berawa for a vibrant French afrobeats and hip-hop party. Dress to impress. The party goes on until 5am.
Friday nights at Morabito Art Villa - On Friday's, Morabito hosts some of the best underground DJs from around the world. Dress to impress - one of the few places we've not been allowed in wearing flip flops.
14. Hang out at Canggu's beach clubs

During the day, Canggu's beach clubs are known for their chilled-out vibe, offering a place to relax and swim in the pool. But as the sun sets over Bali, the vibe picks up and they take on a slightly livelier atmosphere. Here are a few to check out:
Sol Rooftop (chill vibe) - Located in Pererenan, Sol Rooftop is part-beach club, part-rooftop bar. It offers an excellent vantage point to watch the sunset with reasonably priced drinks and no minimum spend. They have a pool, loungers, and booths for groups. Expect a chilled-out atmosphere with a DJ playing tropical beats. It’s open until 11pm every evening.
FINNS Beach Club (party vibe) - If it’s a wild pool party you’re looking for, FINNS is the place to be! There's a lively atmosphere with nine bars across the complex, including a 360-degree swim-up bar. The party starts well before sunset, when the DJ hits the decks and dancers take to podiums. We’ve partied here several times and the club only gets wilder as the night goes on, ending around midnight.
It's free to enter but there's a minimum spend for day beds and loungers. Make sure you arrive by 5pm to take advantage of the excellent 2-4-1 happy hour deals.

La Brisa (chill vibe) - La Brisa is a relaxed beach club on Echo Beach in Canggu. It has an eco-friendly, bohemian vibe and was designed using reclaimed wood from 500+ old fishermen's boats. If you arrive before sunset, grab a beach beanbag to enjoy the stunning ocean views. The club is open until 11pm most days, but they occasionally host big parties on Saturday nights, when it stays open later.
The Lawn (lively vibe) - The Lawn is one of the smaller beach clubs in Canggu. Located at the end of central Batu Bolong, the beachfront venue provides a great view across the ocean and makes an excellent sunset spot. Most evenings, they have a DJ playing chilled but lively tunes until 10/11pm. They occasionally host evening parties with big artists playing too.

Canggu's G-Swing isn’t your typical dreamy Instagram swing in Bali. It's an adrenaline-pumping experience where you’re strapped into an open capsule and launched 40m into the air, reaching speeds of 100km/h.
The swing is suitable for up to 5 people, so you’ll get a better price if you can convince some unsuspecting friends to join you. It’s open until midnight if you need some liquid courage first. However, we’d suggest not drinking too much before being catapulted into the air.
The venue has also recently opened a bar underneath if you need to calm yourself down with a drink afterwards. We haven't had the guts to try this out yet. But you can find out more on their website.
16. Play a game of evening padel

Bali is an island obsessed with Padel, a sport that combines elements of tennis and squash. It’s played on a court similar to tennis; only the ball is allowed to bounce off the glass walls surrounding the court.
There are many places to play padel in Canggu, but Jungle Padel is the best option for beginners or those looking for a one-off game. The courts are lit by floodlights and open until midnight – perfect for an evening activity that doesn't involve drinking.
You can book a court for 60 or 90 minutes and can opt to include balls and rackets if you don’t have them. Traditionally a doubles game, it’s best to play as a group of four, although we’ve seen people playing with just two people before. You can always ask the staff to join in if you have an odd number.
