With hundreds of options to choose between, navigating Canggu’s bar scene is quite the adventure. Whether you’re a casual beer drinker, cocktail connoisseur, or looking to dance the night away to 90s hits, Canggu has something for everyone.
As regulars on Canggu's nightlife scene, we've visited just about every bar in town, from Batu Bolong to Berawa and Pererenan. In this guide, we'll run you through our absolute favourites.
Distinguishing between a bar, restaurant, and beach club isn't always clear-cut in Bali, so don't be surprised if you spot some of these in our other Canggu guides.
Best Canggu Bars: Map
What to wear? Most bars in Canggu are very laid back so casual attire is perfectly fine, flip-flops included. The exceptions are the wine bars and cocktail bars. Although they rarely enforce a dress code, we’d advise smart-casual which would be more in line with the vibe.
Best Bars in Canggu - Our Top Picks
1. Black Sands Brewery

Black Sands is one of Bali’s best craft breweries. Their huge taproom is located right on the main road of Batu Bolong and is one of our favourite places for an evening drink in Canggu.
The semi-outdoor beer garden has long sharing tables, perfect for groups of all sizes. Avid beer drinkers will enjoy their numerous beers on tap, including the signature Summer Pale Ale (our fave!). Plus a great selection of spirits, wines, and cocktails are available too.

Fridays are the busiest nights at Black Sands, with locals and tourists descending on the large brewery to let loose after a hectic week. With DJs until midnight and two happy hours (3-6pm & 10-11pm), the bar gets super busy and the dance floor gets very lively.
The food here is worth mentioning too. It’s not the cheapest in town, but it's worth the price (the burgers and pizzettes are our favourites). Be sure to save room for dessert because their hot chip cookie with gelato is heaven!
2. Baliwood

Another of our favourite Canggu bars has to be Baliwood. Even with its prominent location and bright signage, this amazing little bar still remains somewhat of a hidden gem. It's a great place to begin your night and perfect for smaller groups.
The low-key bar has a relaxed atmosphere with quirky decor and a fake grass floor. If you’re looking for somewhere to hang out and chat, the comfy sofas or hanging chairs are perfect.
But our favourite thing is the variety of games dotted around the bar, including darts, mega Jenga, beer pong, and retro gaming consoles with old-school video games such as Mario Kart and Tekken. From time to time, they have live music too.

For a compact bar, Baliwood has a great selection of craft beers, including several on tap. The bartenders are always happy to whip up a cocktail if that's your preferred drink and fresh coconuts are on hand for those chilled evenings.
We can’t forget to mention the stars of the show, Bali and Messi, the owner's two dogs that live upstairs and often swing by to say hello and cause a little chaos.

Bars for Dancing and Partying
3. Old Mans

A Canggu staple! Old Man’s was one of the first bars to open back when Canggu was emerging as a small surf destination. And it continues to be one of the most popular spots in town every day of the week.
The large bar has a huge open-air dancefloor, nightly DJs, and affordable drinks. It’s located at the bottom of Batu Bolong which has become Canggu's main nightlife hub with a great vibe for partygoers until the early hours.
Old Man's offer free entry most nights unless they have a big artist playing or a special event. The music here is a mixed bag with dance-pop and R'n'B most nights, but a bit more housey on the weekend.

Old Man's is open all day should you want somewhere with a casual atmosphere and ocean views. But it's best known as a late-night venue with big energy and a busy dancefloor. We recommend heading here from 10pm onwards.
On Wednesdays, they host an open-to-anyone beer pong tournament with sign-ups at 6pm. There’s a big cash prize for the winners, so get practicing!
4. Motel Mexicola

This is one of the newest bars on Batu Bolong’s nightlife scene, but a welcome addition. Sitting directly opposite Old Man's, Motel Mexicola is a colourful Mexican-themed restaurant that turns into a lively bar as the evening progresses, fuelled by copious amounts of tequila.
Whether you come early for the food or join later for the party, it's a busy place that will keep you entertained until close (usually 1am). Mexicola is usually free entry, although the drinks here are a bit more expensive than Old Man’s.
The later it gets, the wilder it gets. Dancing on the tables at Mexicola is almost a rite of passage on a night out in Canggu. Careful not to fall off them after a few drinks – I'm talking from experience!
5. Yoga Mart

If you’ve walked past Yoga Mart during the day, you’ll be wondering how a convenience store with a visa kiosk outside has made our list...
But as the night unfolds things will become clearer. The kiosk sheds its visa signs and morphs into a makeshift shot bar, complete with a huge speaker that seemingly appears out of nowhere to create a real vibe.
You can buy drinks from Yoga Mart, paying convenience store prices instead of bar prices. Tables outside the shop are where groups of locals and foreigners congregate to mingle and drink. If you're travelling solo, it's a great spot to make friends early in the night.
The makeshift shot bar sells only one drink but it's a good one – joss shots. This is a concoction of vodka mixed with extra joss to create a bubbling potion-like shot full of alcohol and energy that will get you pumped for the night ahead.
Whenever a friend visits us in Bali, it’s a tradition to get a joss shot from Yoga Mart on the way down to Old Man’s and Mexicola.
6. XBR

XBR (previously X-Bar) is a large bar and club hidden away down the side street next to Yoga Mart.
During my first visit to Canggu, this was always the first stop for our hostel gang on a night out. It’s great for large groups with cheap drinks, plenty of space, and (most importantly) beer pong tables.
If that wasn't enough to tempt you in, their new ladies' night deal on Thursdays and Fridays offers free-flow drinks for women before 10pm.
XBR can have a great atmosphere when it’s busy, especially if there’s a good live band playing and everyone is on the dance floor. But the huge venue takes a lot of people to fill up, so it can be hit or miss. With free entry, you've got nothing to lose by popping your head inside for a vibe check.
7. Sandbar

Of course, any night out in Canggu HAS to end with Sandbar. It’s Emily’s favourite bar in Canggu and almost a second home at this point.
Whether it’s a bar or a club remains up for discussion, but whatever it is, this unique venue literally takes over the beach at the end of Batu Bolong, with a huge dance floor right on the sand.
You can expect dance remixes of all the classic tunes, cheap drinks, and the tide sweeping across your feet while you dance – flip-flops or shoes off is a must!

Sandbar is open every single night. Even the rain can’t stop the enthusiastic crowd from partying, which has resulted in some very soggy nights for us. While it used to be free until quite recently, there's now a 100,000 IDR ⓘ entrance fee, which includes your first drink.
Sandbar stays open later than any other bar in Canggu. The party doesn't properly get started until after 1am when all the other bars nearby close, with crowds starting to dwindle around 3-4am. You've officially completed Canggu if you’re still there until close at 5am!
8. Luigis (Monday Night)

Luigi's is an Italian restaurant that's earned itself a spot on our guide to the best pizza in Canggu thanks to its wood-fired brick pizza oven. But we’re including it here for another reason – for hosting the biggest Monday night party in town!
Between 8-10pm every Monday, the staff part the tables and the restaurant transforms into a lively bar and club. DJs take to the decks and the dance floor fills up as attention moves from the pizza menu to the cocktail menu.

If you arrive after 8pm, there’s a 100,000 IDR ⓘ entrance fee. This increases to 200,000 IDR when the venue nears capacity. That's why we'd suggest booking a table for dinner there around 7pm, then sticking around for the party after.
If you want to try this hack, you’ll need to book your table at least a few days in advance as it usually gets fully booked up.

9. The Bench
View this post on Instagram A post shared by The Bench (@thebench.canggu)
The Bench is an Aussie sports bar on Batu Bolong with TV screens on every wall showing most major sporting events across the World. This includes the NFL, AFL, Premier League, UFC, Formula 1, and more.
As the go-to place for watching sports in Canggu, it can get busy when big games are shown. But it's not your typical rowdy sports bar, there's a welcoming atmosphere that's fun for everyone to join.
The bar typically closes around 2am, but stays open even later when big games are on. If there’s a specific match you’d like to watch, message them on WhatsApp to check if they're showing it and to reserve a seat near the correct TV. The staff try to accommodate different interests and keep as many people happy as possible.
They also have three pool tables and serve classic bar food including burgers, tacos, hot dogs, and snacks. Their Friday beer and burger deal is great value!
Best Cocktail Bars & Speakeasies
10. The Shady Fox

Over in Pererenan, The Shady Fox is a stylish speakeasy bar that will transport you back to 1930s London. Think red velvet, plush leather sofas, soft lighting, and finely dressed bartenders.
The bar is hidden on the second floor of a great Indian restaurant (Red Gunpowder) with very little signage to guide you - just what you want from a speakeasy. You'll first need to contact them to reserve a table and find out the password!

There's live music most evenings, which could be jazz, blues, soul, or funk to complement the bar's old-world atmosphere. Check their Instagram stories to find out what genre is playing each night.
Mixologists at The Shady Fox know what they're doing, with excellent signature concoctions such as the "Queen of Hearts," made with gin, cherry liqueur, and red wine, and "Shogi Ice Tea," featuring gin and matcha. Occasional takeovers see renowned mixologists taking the reins for the evening.
11. The Mailroom

Hidden behind the facade of a Poke Bowl cafe in Berawa, The Mailroom is an intimate speakeasy bar known for its extravagant cocktails.
At the back of the closed cafe is a secret door leading to a mailroom where you must open the mailbox number provided when you book. Inside the box, you'll find the key to unlock a second door leading to the bar.
Visiting with a large group of friends wasn't our finest idea. The cosy and compact bar is better suited to a romantic date night. On the plus side, it did mean we could try plenty of different cocktails, each a showpiece in itself.

Some cocktails glowed brightly, one came in an IV drip, and one was even served on fire. Keeping with the theme, their signature cocktail came locked in its very own mini mailbox.
The presentation was top-notch, and all the cocktails tasted great too. If you enjoy trying unique cocktails and don't mind splurging for the experience, the Mailroom is a must-visit cocktail bar in Canggu.
12. Cloak and Dagger

Cloak and Dagger is a tiny speakeasy hidden above a Ramen restaurant on Batu Bolong. It's themed around true crime and serial killers, with unique features like a wall of true crime investigation boards, many crime novels, (fake) body parts in jars, and even a mugshot board.
But the bar's coolest feature has to be the cocktail list, which has 10 creative signature cocktails named after infamous serial killers from around the world, each accompanied by a brief profile.

We tried the “Robot Kadek Siswanto“ (a twist on an espresso martini) and the “Andreas Mendosa” (tequila, orange, and caramel), and both were so creative and delicious!
Cloak and Dagger is a fairly small bar, and there are only a handful of tables, so it’s best to book by messaging them on Instagram in advance.
13. The Back Room

Masonry is an upmarket restaurant on Batu Bolong, hiding a little secret. Behind an unassuming door at the rear of the restaurant is the entrance to The Back Room, a hidden cocktail bar for those in the know.
The secret bar has a sophisticated New York speakeasy vibe with dim lighting, leather booths, a pool table, and a fantastic selection of cocktails and drinks. It's small with an intimate atmosphere, making it ideal for a romantic date.
When we visited, the DJ was playing afrobeats which set the mood perfectly. But on any given night the genre can vary from smooth jazz to upbeat house.
14. Tarot Bar

Tarot Bar (also known as Gadalnya) is a brand new Russian-owned cocktail bar in central Canggu that's already attracting a full house each night with its unique twist - an in-house tarot reader.
With every drink you buy, you get a short tarot reading from a professional reader, adding a mystical and interactive layer to your night out in Canggu. While tarot isn't usually our thing, the readings were fun and felt surprisingly accurate. Even if you're a sceptic, it's a unique experience. Plus, it's free, so what's to lose?

There's a great selection of signature cocktails to pick from, from classics to unique and creative flavours. Or you can pick a card from the bartender, and let fate decide your drink.
The bar itself has a moody, mystical vibe, with candlelit interiors, cozy sofas, small table-clothed tables, and a nightly DJ set keeping the energy alive. It's the perfect backdrop for deep conversations with friends while soaking in the vibe.
15. Segno

Just to the side of Luma, a high-end restaurant on Batu Bolong, there's a doorway that could easily be mistaken for an emergency exit, were it not for the glowing 'S' logo confirming you're on the right path.
Head through the door and up the stairs to reach Segno, an uber-classy cocktail bar that blends Japanese folklore with the vibe of the Ginza district in Tokyo.
The bar has a low-key yet sophisticated atmosphere and an excellent drinks selection, with talented mixologists who can make anything you want. You can get a custom-made cocktail based on your own personal taste preferences or try some of their own distinctive recipes.
Although prices are fairly high (200,000+ IDR ⓘ per cocktail), the upmarket experience justifies every penny.
16. The Shady Pig
Also in Berawa, The Shady Pig is the original bar from the Shady family who also opened The Shady Fox (mentioned earlier) and The Shady Flamingo over in Seminyak.
With limited seating, reservations are essential (details here). After booking you’ll receive a password to get through the hidden entrance.
Climb the staircase inside to reach the bar which combines a prohibition atmosphere with the style of 1920’s Birmingham. It’s dimly lit with vintage décor and bartenders who'd fit in well on the set of Peaky Blinders.
Although there's no official dress code, like most speakeasy bars you'll want to dress up a little bit to fit in.
Choose from a menu of classic and innovative cocktails. The mixologists showcase their expertise with outstanding flavours and impressive skills while they work. You'll enjoy watching each drink being made just as much as drinking it.
Best Rooftop Bars in Canggu
17. Ji Terrace by the Sea

Ji Terrace by the Sea is a restaurant and bar in Canggu at the bottom of Batu Bolong. It's located on the top two floors of Bale Sutra, an old Japanese-Chinese temple that was transported and reconstructed here.
The top floor of the terrace offers a panoramic view of the starry skies above your head, while the floor below has unobstructed 180-degree views across the ocean.
The ground floor of the temple contains the Ji at Bale Sutra 1706 restaurant by the same owners.
18. Sol Rooftop

Sol Rooftop blends elements of a beach club with elements of a rooftop bar to create a one-of-a-kind venue. Located above Pererenan Beach, it has a chilled vibe, chic décor, and an incredible view all the way to the horizon.
During the day, it’s a great spot to relax with sun beds and a refreshing pool complete with playful floaties.
On occasions we'll stop by for an evening drink. It's a great spot to enjoy the vibrant hues of Bali's sunset, even though a building in front slightly obstructs the view. The bar gets busier around this time, yet maintains a relaxed atmosphere.
There’s no minimum spend so you can have food here or just pop in for a drink. The bar is open until 11pm with a DJ playing tropical beats most nights.
Best Bars for Chilled Catch-Ups
19. Garden Canggu

Beyond being a haven for pizza lovers (their brick pizza oven speaks for itself!), Garden Canggu offers a laid-back atmosphere that makes a great setting for casual drinks and catching up with friends.
Though it leans more towards being a restaurant, Emily and I often visit for a few chilled drinks. The laid-back atmosphere, excellent happy hour deals on cocktails until 8pm, and live music most nights (except Monday) make a great combo.
Garden Canggu's semi-indoor space is much larger than it looks from the road and is ideal for big groups looking for a casual setting. We've turned up here with a group of 10 before and they always have space for us.
The venue is dotted with trees and greenery that give the feeling of being outdoors, while the fairy lights strung across the venue add to the aesthetics.
20. The Barn

As two Brits, we couldn’t have a list of Canggu's best bars without including at least one British pub. So here's The Barn.
The Barn has the atmosphere of an upmarket British pub and a great selection of pub grub, including bangers and mash, fish & chips, and an excellent Sunday roast.
Luckily, you won’t find any boring British lagers here. Instead, they have a top-notch selection of local draft beers including Black Sands Brewery, Island Brewing, and Kura Kura.
If you’re hoping for something British to drink (not sure why you would), you’re out of luck. But they do have a selection of imported beers from elsewhere in Europe including Guinness, Heineken, and Hoegaarden.
The Barn never seems too busy or too noisy, so it’s a great spot for catching up with friends rather than gearing up for a big night out. All in all, a smashing little pub for us Brits.
Best Beach Bars & Beach Clubs
21. Times Beach Warung

Times Beach Warung is everyone's favourite beach bar in Canggu, with a relaxed setting on the beach where you can enjoy natural beauty rather than fancy décor. Grab a table on their deck area, pull up a seat at the bar, or cosy up on a beachfront beanbag.
The selection of alcoholic drinks may not be extensive, but if you’re after a simple cocktail or a few cold Bintangs, it’s a great spot to unwind and watch the sunset. We love their sustainable approach with a plastic-free policy that more businesses in Bali need to adopt.

Every other Tuesday at 7pm, Times Beach hosts an open-air movie night with a classic movie on the beach (weather permitting). Find the listings on their Instagram.
On move night, you'll need to arrive super early to get a seat - we're talking mid-afternoon! But many people rock up around 7pm and lay down a towel on the sand - the staff never seem bothered by this.
22. Surfers Bar

For a beachfront bar with a sunset view, good food, and no minimum spend, look no further than Surfers Bar. This is another iconic venue that's been going for over 8 years, long before Canggu was as popular as it is now. Even today, the bar remains popular with surfers looking to hang out after hitting the waves.

Surfers is located on Echo Beach, a popular surf spot among intermediate and pro surfers. Even if you don't surf, you'll appreciate the quieter stretch of beach which feels worlds apart from Batu Bolong.
Opt for a beanbag on the sand or a spot on their tiered seating area under cover from the sun. It’s not a late-night bar with closing time usually around 9pm. If Surfers is too busy, neighbouring Othree is another good bar with a similar vibe.
23. La Brisa

La Brisa is a relaxed beach club at the heart of Echo Beach in Canggu. It has bohemian décor and has been designed in an eco-friendly way, using reclaimed wood from more than 500 old fisherman boats.
It's a great place for an evening drink, especially if you arrive in time for sunset and take a seat on their beachfront beanbags. But keep in mind that most of the seating areas here have a minimum spend, which starts at around 300,000 IDR ⓘ per person.
The beach club is open until 11pm most days, but they occasionally host big parties on a Saturday night when it will stay open until the early hours (separate ticket required).
24. Finns Beach Club

If you’re looking for a wild party, Finns Beach Club is the place to be! Expect a lively atmosphere with no less than nine bars across the complex, including a 360-degree swim-up bar in the main pool.
The party here starts well before sunset, when the DJ hits the decks and people take to the central dance floor. We’ve partied here several times, and it only gets wilder as the night goes on, eventually ending around midnight.
It’s free to enter and use the bar areas or the pools. But there’s a minimum spend if you want a lounger or a day bed. Make sure to take advantage of the excellent 2-4-1 happy hour deals.
