Mama San
Best for: upscale Asian-fusion dining.

Mama San is one of the top Asian-fusion restaurants in Seminyak and our go-to for a special date night dinner. The large restaurant has a luxurious and sophisticated interior inspired by 1920s Shanghai, with plush green booths, dark wood features, and a scattering of vintage photographs.
The menu offers a modern and upmarket spin on many classic Southeast Asian street food dishes. There's everything from creatively filled dumplings and aromatic curries to Thai-style clay pots, Malaysian lamb shank, and Peking duck with a unique cranberry hoisin sauce.

With curry being Kieren's favourite food, we had to try a selection of the curries here, and they did not disappoint. The roasted duck red curry with rambutan, ginger, and Thai basil was our favourite.
Mama San is definitely somewhere you want to order several dishes to share to experience all the incredible and diverse flavours. Just don't forget to leave room for the Balinese dark chocolate tiramisu for dessert!

Dome (at Potato Head)
Best for: sustainable European sharing plates and natural wines.

Most people know Desa Potato Head for its luxury hotel and iconic beach club. But did you know it's also home to one of the best restaurants in Seminyak? This hidden gem is where we ate one of the most incredible meals we've ever had in Bali!
Dome is a modern European restaurant and natural wine bar with a cool retro design. Focused on sustainable dining, it has a small menu of sharing plates made with organic produce sourced locally in Bali. We ordered six dishes to share, guided by recommendations from our friendly server.

While the menu changes regularly, on our visit, we ordered the Jamón croquettes, stuffed aubergine, roasted pumpkin, and steak. Every dish was amazing and packed with unique flavours. An unexpected highlight was the warm sourdough bread with miso butter - it's a MUST order (we still dream about it)!
Dome is also known for its varied menu of natural imported wines. We picked our own wines (which were great!), but you can also choose a wine flight for a curated selection to pair with your food.
As part of their sustainability ethos, the restaurant keeps used wine bottles and asks guests to write messages or decorate them, to be displayed around the room. See if you can find our message when you visit!

Where to Stay in Seminyak
Read Now →FIRE (at W Bali)
Best for: wood-fired dining in a unique Kecak-inspired setting.

Located within the W Bali Hotel, FIRE is an upmarket wood-fired dining restaurant that's inspired by the famous Balinese Kecak fire dance.
From the moment we walked in the door, we couldn't stop saying "wow." Between the huge fireball chandelier in the centre of the room and the busy open kitchen, where bursts of fire lit up the cooking stations throughout the night, every detail blew us away and set the stage for an incredible dining experience.
The menu here focuses on open-fire cooking, with premium cuts of steak, locally-sourced seafood, and fresh seasonal ingredients, prepared over wood and charcoal flames by expert chefs.

We tried both the striploin steak and crispy skin pork belly, both of which were flavourful and delicious. We particularly enjoyed getting to pick out our own steak knives from their international knife collection. Kieren went for the German meat cleaver, while I picked a Japanese samurai knife.
While the meats were fantastic, the highlight of the meal for me had to be the dark chocolate soufflé with spiced chocolate and sorbet. It was so rich and addictive. The best way to end an amazing dinner!
Boy'N'Cow
Best for: incredible STEAK!

Bow'N'Cow is one of Bali's best steakhouses and an absolute meat-lover's dream. We both love steak, and this is where we had one of our favourite steak dinners on the entire island.
The Seminyak restaurant has a trendy industrial-chic vibe, with exposed brick walls, metal mesh panels, and high ceilings. With two floors of seating, it's almost always completely full, so it's best to book a table in advance.
Bow'N'Cow specialises in premium dry-aged and wagyu steaks, using high-quality beef imported from both Australia and Japan.

While we were tempted by the huge 1000g tomahawk, we ended up ordering the ribeye and striploin instead. Our steaks were tender, juicy, and perfectly cooked, with a crisp crust and a side of premium sea salt.
There's a good selection of sides - we loved the asparagus with crunchy parmesan and steak chips with black truffle. There's also a fantastic imported wine list with some beautiful reds to complement the steak.
Prices are definitely on the expensive side for Bali, with the steaks alone ranging from 650,000 IDR ⓘ to 8,500,000 IDR ⓘ. The meal was worth every penny (in our opinion), but it's definitely a restaurant to save for a special occasion.
Kilo Kitchen Bali
Best for: Western comfort food with an upmarket Asian twist.

For a little bit of everything, Kilo Kitchen is a chic, upscale restaurant in Seminyak that serves Asian-Western fusion dishes in a cool, artsy venue surrounded by greenery.
The restaurant's creative fusion dishes take inspiration from across Asia, Europe, and Latin America (where the owners are from), with the likes of beef tongue tacos, beef rendang pasta, and lobster and truffle risotto.

We visited Kilo Kitchen for lunch and tried some of their comfort food classics, including the double cheese burger and chicken katsu with gochujang honey glaze, both of which were delicious and filling.
If you visit during the day, you can enjoy their brunch or lunch menu in the restaurant's beautiful open garden space. Evenings have a slightly more upmarket feel and a more refined food offering, which we'll be back to try soon!
Top Beachfront Restaurants in Seminyak
La Lucciola
Best for: tasty Italian food with a sunset view.

La Lucciola is a large open-air bamboo restaurant right on the beachfront in Seminyak. It's our favourite spot for an early Italian dinner while watching the sunset over the ocean.
The restaurant's menu changes regularly, with many traditional Italian dishes made with local ingredients from Bali. It has everything from fried zucchini flowers and eggplant parmigiana to fresh seafood and risotto with Balinese duck.

We love La Lucciola's pasta, made in-house every day. The cappelletti with pumpkin and risotto was one of the best things I've eaten in a long time, topped with crunchy toasted hazelnuts, crisp sage, and brown butter. The gnocchi with lamb ragu was also rich and delicious.
Try to book a table for around 5:30-6pm, so you have time to grab a glass of Italian wine or a cocktail and watch the sunset. While there's often some space for walk-ins, you'll want to book in advance or arrive early to get a table at the front.
Starfish Bloo
Best for: cocktails and Mediterranean-style sharing plates by the sea.

Also within the W Bali Hotel is the slightly more casual beachfront restaurant, Starfish Bloo. The large open-air restaurant stretches along the coast, with sweeping ocean views and a relaxed atmosphere that's perfect for an early dinner while watching the sunset.
Their menu features a variety of Mediterranean-style sharing plates with an Asian flair and plenty of fresh seafood. During our visit, we enjoyed a cocktail each and shared five plates between us, which was the perfect amount to fill us up for the evening.
Our favourite dishes were the stracciatella cheese with Sichuan chili and the chicken katsu sando. We also enjoyed the braised beef cheek, pork dumplings, and red curry soup (we definitely leant more to Asian side of the menu!).

While we enjoyed a casual weekday dinner here, Starfish Bloo is also known for its Saturday Sunset Grill, with a large seafood tower and live cooking station, and its iconic all-you-can-eat Sunday Brunch (this is very high on our list to come back for!).
We'd definitely recommend coming here for either lunch or an early sunset dinner (like we did!). It's much better when you can enjoy the ocean views!
Where to Eat Indonesian Food in Seminyak
Naughty Nuri's Warung
Best for: tasty BBQ pork ribs.

Naughty Nuri's is Bali's best-known pork ribs restaurant. Their original Ubud restaurant opened in 1995 and counts Anthony Bourdain and Julia Roberts among past diners. They eventually expanded into a new restaurant in Seminyak.
Their pork ribs are famous for being perfectly tender and succulent, with several different types to pick from, including a huge 2kg full rack.
We got the signature BBQ pork ribs, and they just fell right off the bone. Don't be afraid to use your hands and get stuck in... They're messy but delicious!
There are also some deliciously indulgent sides to pick from, including the volcano potato, which overflows with cheese, garlic butter, and bacon bits. The service is fast and super friendly. Order a giant daiquiri for a full song and dance by the staff.
Waroeng Bernadette
Best for: rich Indonesian beef rendang.

Beef rendang is one of our favourite Indonesian dishes. Originating from West Sumatra, the local dish features meltingly tender beef slow-cooked in coconut milk and fragrant spices until richly caramelised.
There's nowhere better to try beef rendang than at award-winning Waroeng Bernadette in Seminyak. The stylish local restaurant was started by Jakarta-born Bernadette, who has become famous for her beautifully rich and aromatic rendang. It's the best we've ever tried in Bali!
Other than rendang, the restaurant serves many authentic Indonesian dishes, from classic nasi goreng to chicken sate and bakso meatball soup. We also love their dadar guling (rolled pancakes) for dessert!

Best Day Trips From Seminyak
Read Now →Warung Nia
Best for: a huge variety of local Balinese dishes.

Warung Nia is one of our favourite places for delicious and affordable Balinese food in Seminyak. The large warung does a wide variety of local dishes, from nasi goreng (fried rice) to succulent pork ribs, traditional sate sticks, and hanging meat skewers.
To try a little bit of everything, order the Balinese rijsttafel, which comes with a varied selection of local favourites. Or for something a little different, try one of our favourites - bebek timbungan, marinated Balinese duck uniquely cooked in a bamboo tube.

Warung Nia is also home to one of our favourite cooking classes in Bali, where we learned how to make loads of local dishes in a fun group class setting. The cooking class also included a trip to the local market and a great explanation about local flavours and ingredients.

Sisterfields
Best for: fantastic coffee and brunch.

Sisterfields is a modern Australian-inspired cafe in central Seminyak with fantastic coffee and one of the area's best brunch selections. It's a popular morning hangout spot among the local foodie crowd.
The huge all-day brunch menu has a range of classic and creative brunch dishes. There's everything from smashed avocado toast (10/10 would recommend!) and salmon bagels to bacon Benedict with miso hollandaise and chilli cheese scrambled eggs.
If you have a sweet tooth, their mango sticky rice bowl and chocolate brioche French toast are both must-tries. There's also some fantastic fresh fruit juices and smoothies to start the day.

Best Brunch Cafes in Seminyak
Read Now →Livingstone
Best for: perfectly flaky croissants and a wide range of baked goods.

Livingstone is another popular cafe and artisan bakery in Seminyak that does some of the best croissants in town. Made fresh daily and served warm, their croissants are beautifully flaky on the outside and soft on the inside.
While you really can't go wrong with the plain croissant here, the in-house bakery does a fantastic variety of baked goods, including savoury pain suisse, sweet cruffins, and indulgent fruit-filled Danishes.

The chocolate hazelnut croissant is my favourite, with its warm and gooey Nutella-like filling. Other fillings include ham and cheese, chorizo, tuna mayo, and more. Or for something bigger, try the croissant Benedict or chicken katsu-filled croissant.
Kieren is also a big fan of one of Livingstone's more unusual menu items - a full English breakfast inside a giant Yorkshire pudding (see here)!
Kynd Community Cafe
Best for: tasty vegan food in an Instagrammable setting.

Seminyak's Kynd Community Cafe has become famous for its cute pink Palm Springs-style decor. The cafe has countless photogenic corners, with tropical rattan furnishings, slogans painted across the walls, a bright pink scooter, and even a swing to snap some Insta pics on.
The cafe's menu is predominantly plant-based, but they have recently started incorporating some dairy items into a few dishes. Their brunch menu has everything from vegan pancakes with coconut ice cream to classic savoury breakfast dishes using crispy tempeh bacon.

The avocado toast with garlic mushrooms is my favourite breakfast. But their most famous dish has to be their customisable smoothie bowls, on which you can have your name (or anything else) written in fruit.
Even if you don’t visit for brunch, the Seminyak cafe is also home to a plant-based pizzeria, vegan ice creamery, and conscious apparel store.
HUT (by Shelter)
Best for: a slow, relaxed breakfast with plenty of choices.

Located inside a traditional wooden “joglo” style building covered in greenery, Hut Bali is the little sister of Shelter, one of our all-time favourite restaurants in Canggu. So it's no surprise that we're big fans of the cafe too.
The cafe's menu focuses on modern Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine, with lots of tasty brunch options, from buckwheat waffles with maple gelato to Turkish fried eggs. The Croque Madame is my favourite - so good!

With plenty of seating and a rustic, laid-back vibe, Hut is a great place for a slow, relaxed brunch while catching up with friends or reading a book. Although, it does get fairly busy on weekends.
The cafe also has its own in-store bakery that freshly bakes a variety of sweet and savoury pastries daily. We love the fresh bread here.
