A Foodie's Guide to the Best Restaurants in Sanur [+ Map]

One of Bali's most popular coastal resort towns, Sanur has a fantastic foodie offering. Restaurants in Sanur come in all shapes and sizes, from casual beachfront eateries and local warungs to lively gastro-pubs and upmarket date-night spots.

After eating our way through the area on numerous visits, here are all our favourite places to eat in Sanur for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Most of the best restaurants in Sanur are located along the beachfront or on the busy main street of Jl. Danau Tamblingan.

Soul on the Beach

Best for: all-day beachfront dining in Sanur.

Soul on the Beach is one of the most popular all-day dining spots in Sanur. The rustic beachfront cafe stretches across each side of the boardwalk at lively Sindhu Beach, with tables right on the sand. They even have towels and showers, in case you feel like a dip in the ocean while you're here.

We often come for breakfast to enjoy their morning deal of coffee and a croissant/egg muffin for just 60,000 IDR . But their Mediterranean menu runs all day, featuring tapas plates, salad bowls, pizza, pasta, burgers, a good selection of seafood, and a few local dishes.

They also do a great happy hour from 4-7pm, with discounts on cocktails, beer, and wine, making it a popular spot around sunset. But you may want to book - we've struggled to get a table around this time before.

Moreno Beach

Best for: creative Mediterranean flavours on the beach.

Moreno is another of our favourite beachfront restaurants in Sanur, but with a slightly more elevated vibe. It features a chic Mediterranean-style cafe and a spacious covered seating area right on the beach. We love the feeling of eating on a sunny day with our feet in the sand!

Their all-day menu blends Mediterranean, Italian, and international comfort food. We ate here during the day and ordered the patatas bravas (a must-try!) and the huge pesto chicken sandwich with lots of mozzarella and sun-dried tomatoes.

We can't wait to come back to Moreno soon and try some of their bigger dishes, like the roasted pumpkin, handmade pasta with truffle carbonara, and the hanging rib-eye skewers - honestly, everything they serve sounds increidble!

Rue Bali

Best for: brunch and people watching.

Rue is the casual street-side cafe and all-day dining restaurant of the luxurious Maya Sanur Resort. The modern spot has a menu of international fusion flavours, with influences from Australia, Europe, and Asia.

We visited Rue for brunch and had the most delicious breakfast tacos and 'By the Rue' with eggs, halloumi, avo, and hollandaise (all my faves!). There's a large, indoor, air-conditioned space, but we preferred sitting on the street-side terrace to people-watch on Sanur's busy main road.

The all-day dining menu caters to everyone, with plenty of comfort food favourites like the London fish and chips, New York hot dog, Mexican salad, and a variety of Italian-style pizzas.

The Restaurant at Tandjung Sari

Best for: a romantic date night with local flavours.

Historic Tandjung Sari is one of our all-time favourite hotels in Sanur. Not only that, but its on-site restaurant is also one of our favourite date night restaurants in Sanur. And it's open to outside guests too (just make sure to book).

The hotel's upmarket local restaurant is right on the beachfront, with tables well-spaced out across the sandy bay and surrounded by huge palm trees, giving it a relaxed yet romantic atmosphere.

The restaurant specialises in modern Indonesian flavours. For something special, their signature 'Rijsttafel' (rice table) is a lavish two-person feast where you can try many local dishes, including rice, meats, veggies, and sambals. We loved the 'Nasi Campur', which was smaller but also came with rice and mixed sides.

Jepun Sanur

Best for: a fun, family dinner with something for everyone.

Jepun is another of our favourite spots for tasty Asian flavours in Sanur. Located within a traditional Joglo-style building, it always has a fun and lively atmosphere. On our recent visit, there was even a live band that had people up dancing early in the evening.

The restaurant serves a great range of pan-Asian dishes, including lots of local Indonesian favourites like nasi goreng, soto ayam, and satay, as well as Pad Thai, Indian curries, and dumplings. We particularly loved the pulled pork pancakes and Indonesian beef rendang here.

Jepun has plenty of Western dishes too, such as burgers, chicken parma, steaks, and pastas, making it a great option for big groups with varied (or fussier) tastes.

L'Osteria

Best for: authentic Italian dishes.

L'Osteria has long been one of our favourite Italian chains in Bali, so we were super excited when their new restaurant opened in Sanur, right on the beachfront outside the lively ICON BALI mega-mall.

The restaurant has a rustic Italian tavern charm, with exposed stone walls, low wooden beams, and terracotta pots, while the terrace opens up to the turquoise ocean outside. We've enjoyed a couple of leisurely, Italian-style lunches here, accompanied by a few glasses of imported wine.

The menu has many authentic Italian dishes. Some of our favourites we've eaten here are the pumpkin and sausage risotto, the ragú arancini, and the homemade gnocchi alla Sorrentina. Plus, we always get the tiramisu to end our meal - it's one of the tastiest in Bali!

Shotgun Social

Best for: craft beer and tasty comfort food in a family-friendly setting.

Shotgun Social is one of Bali's best taprooms and a popular evening meet-up spot in Sanur. The cool, family-friendly venue has a huge open-air beer garden with a kids' play area and a great selection of local craft beers on tap.

The beers pair perfectly with their comfort food menu. We tried their signature NYC-style pizza (the pumpkin and sausage one), and would highly recommend it. We ordered the mac and cheese croquette bites too, which were delicious. The burgers and tacos here also look great.

Shotgun Social is always busiest on event nights, which include food deals, live music, and social dances. We visited for the weekly traditional Balinese dance, which was a lot of fun, and the dancers were great at interacting with the kids.

Warung Umago

Best for: affordable local dishes with rice terrace views.

Warung Umago was a recent discovery of ours, hidden among Sanur's quiet rice fields. It's a lovely local restaurant with affordable local food, the kindest staff, and gorgeous views over the surrounding terraces.

The menu is small and simple, with several Balinese dishes, including nasi goreng (fried rice) and soto ayam (chicken soup), snacks, and customisable rice bowls. We had the chicken teriyaki rice bowl, which was super tasty and incredible value for money at just 35,000 IDR ⓘ.

The warung also has proper barista coffees and matcha, so you can simply come for a drink and one of their cakes or pastries overlooking the rice terraces.

DOMOS Bali

Best for: creative brunch dishes.

We spotted DOMOS Bali's cute pink exterior while wandering down Sanur's main street and just had to go in. And luckily, the Instagrammable little cafe did not disappoint.

DOMOS has a fantastic all-day brunch menu with plenty of creative takes on classic dishes. We ordered the avocado and egg stack, which had a real spicy kick from the house-made chilli oil. We also loved their fluffy pancakes with strawberries, butterscotch, and coconut.

The cafe is small with just a handful of tables, including two long sharing tables indoors. It was quiet during our visit. But if it is busy, you may have to share with other guests.

Taquisa

Best for: loaded tacos and burritos.

Taquisa is a lovely little Mexican restaurant on Sanur's main street that does tasty Tex-Mex-style street food.

The menu concept is simple... Pick a base from corn tacos, burrito, bowl, or salad. Then pick a filling - our favourites were the tinga chicken and the chorizo and potatoes. We also got a side of loaded nachos, and of course, a margarita.

The small restaurant is usually quite busy, so booking a table may be best if you’re a big group, especially on weekend evenings on for their weekly Taco Tuesday deal.

Massimo Italian

Best for: amazing gelato!!

Massimo is Sanur’s longest-established and most popular Italian restaurant. The owner is from southern Italy, but he's been cooking delicious homemade Italian food in Sanur for almost 30 years now.

Their absolutely huge menu features everything from authentic antipasto dishes and homemade pasta to pizza, seafood specialties, and meat dishes. There's even an entire gluten-free menu.

But our favourite thing about Massimo is the homemade gelato stall out front. The gelato is truly some of the best in all of Bali - I love the stracciatella! The stall has been super busy every single time we've visited, but it's definitely worth the wait, and the line does go down quickly.

Naughty Nuri's

Best for: indulgent Balinese pork ribs.

Naughty Nuri's is Bali's original ribs restaurant, opened in 1995 with branches all across the island and past diners including Anthony Bourdain and Julia Roberts.

A meat-lover's dream, the pork ribs here are famous for being perfectly tender and succulent, with several different types to pick from. We got the signature BBQ pork ribs, and they really just fell right off the bone.

There are also some deliciously indulgent sides, including the volcano potato, which overflows with cheese, garlic butter, and bacon bits. The service is fast and super friendly - you even receive a full song and dance by the staff if you order their giant daiquiri.

Curry Traders

Best for: upmarket Indian cuisine and cocktails.

Originally one of Nusa Lembongan's top restaurants (we've been several times!), Curry Traders have recently opened their second restaurant in central Sanur. The upmarket restaurant is known for its stylish vibe, bold flavours, and extravagant British Colonial-style cocktails, aka lots of gin!

As the restaurant's name suggests, curry is the star of the menu, with dishes that blend Indian, Sri Lankan, and Southeast Asian influences. Expect rich, aromatic sauces and perfectly balanced spices.

We loved the butter chicken and spicy gunpowder potatoes. They also have some fun sharing dishes, like the 'water bubble shots', bite-sized savoury pastries with a shot of mint sauce, and the 'crispy pastry cigars', served in a cigar box.

The Fire Station

Best for: a proper Sunday roast dinner.

We wouldn't be real Brits if we didn't include the Fire Station, Sanur's first and only British-style gastro-pub, which has become famous for its tasty Sunday roast.

In Bali's humid weather, a roast dinner isn't necessarily the first thing I crave, but we went to check it out anyway and thoroughly enjoyed it.

There were several different meats available, but we chose the chicken and the lamb. Everything was delicious, from the homemade Yorkshire pudding to the rich, red-wine gravy (although the stuffing was a little soft for my liking). Don't forget to add the truffle cauliflower cheese!
