7 BEST Beaches on Nusa Lembongan

An idyllic island paradise just off the east coast of Bali, Nusa Lembongan offers the perfect beach escape away from the ever-growing mainland crowds.

The beaches on Nusa Lembongan are some of the most beautiful in all of Bali, with their soft white sands, vibrant turquoise waters, and dramatic coastal backdrops.

After numerous visits to Nusa Lembongan over the last couple of years, we’ve managed to make our way around all of the island’s most breathtaking bays. So it was about time we used our experience to put together this definitive list of the best beaches on Nusa Lembongan.

Dream Beach

Dream Beach is the most popular beach in Nusa Lembongan. And for good reason. Rugged cliffs shelter the golden sand and turquoise waters, which can be reached via a stone staircase from the cafe and car park above.

You can bring your own towel and sunbathe on the soft sand for free, or hire a deckchair or beanbag from a beach vendor for a little extra comfort.

At high tide, it’s possible to paddle in the calm, crystal-clear waters at Dream Beach. But it’s best not to swim too far out where the waves get significantly stronger. At low tide, there are a few natural caves in the cliffs on the east side of the beach, which are fun to explore.

If accessibility to the beach is an issue, there are also a couple of restaurants on the clifftop with daybeds and infinity pools overlooking the scenic bay. You can use all of the facilities at Cafe Pandan by paying just 50,000 IDR ⓘ per person, which includes use of a towel.

Jungutbatu Beach

Jungutbatu is home to the longest sandy beach on Nusa Lembongan and is the main resort area where you’ll find the majority of oceanfront cafes, beach bars, and hotels. It’s also where many of the ferries from Bali first arrive.

Easily accessible from the main street, the gorgeous white sand beach is a popular spot for sunbathing, swimming, and a variety of watersports. Just watch out for the boats that dock along the beach - the west side tends to be where most of the ferries come in.

Jungutbatu is also where you’ll see some of the best sunsets on the island. Head out onto the water on a stand-up paddleboard or grab a cocktail from one of the beach bars, like Ohana's or The Beach Shack, and watch as the deep blue skies turn to vibrant shades of pink, orange, and red.

Pasir Putih Beach

Located at the very northern end of Jungutbatu, connecting Pantai Pasir Putih fittingly translates to “white sand beach” thanks to its perfect powdery white sand. The beach is home to the luxurious Mahagiri Resort, but anyone is welcome to enjoy this hidden gem.

The wide, sandy beach tends to be much quieter than nearby Jungutbatu. It’s perfect for a game of beach volleyball with friends, reading a book under a palm tree, or watching the sunset over the ocean at the end of the day.

The water at Pasir Putih isn’t great for swimming due to the corals and seaweed farms underneath. If you do want to swim, you can always cool down in the resort’s pool if you rent sunbeds or buy something from the bar.

Framed by picturesque coconut trees, the beach has a handful of swings, hammocks, colourful umbrellas, and other props that are great for taking photos around golden hour. If the weather is clear, you might even spot Bali's Mount Agung in the background.

Sandy Bay

Sandy Bay is a small, secluded bay close to Devil’s Tear on the west coast of Lembongan. The beach itself is fairly small with strong waves that aren’t suitable for swimming. There’s some room to put down a towel and sunbathe, but there aren’t any sunbeds to rent and there’s very little shade available.

But that’s not to say you shouldn’t visit. Instead of going to the beach, head to Sandy Bay Beach Club, a chic, laid-back spot with an infinity pool overlooking the bay and daybeds with no minimum spend.

Food and drinks are a little more expensive than elsewhere, but the beach club is a fantastic place to enjoy a coconut while watching the waves crash against the surrounding cliffs.

Mushroom Bay

Mushroom Bay is Lembogan’s second major harbour, after Jungutbatu, and another of the most popular resort areas on the island. It’s probably not the place for those seeking peace and quiet, but it does offer all of the amenities and activities you might need for a fun-filled beach day.

Surrounded by several oceanfront restaurants and hotels, the beach has soft golden sand and relatively calm waters (compared to others on the island), making it a great spot for cooling down in the ocean. Many boat trips and snorkelling trips also leave from this bay, so you’ll never be short of things to do.

Hidden Beach

Separated from Mushroom Bay by a rocky outcrop, Hidden Beach is a secluded bay that’s perfect for those seeking a quieter, more private beach experience.

There’s a small strip of golden sand, colourful corals close to the shore, and some much-needed shade coverage from the surrounding palm trees. The beach is still a hidden gem on the island, so you’ll probably only be sharing it with a couple of other people.

Hidden Beach can be accessed by swimming around the outcrop from Mushroom Bay (not advised) or from the nearby road. There’s an area to park your bike a couple of minutes' walk from the beach (here). The path access is a little steep and uneven, so be careful when walking down.

Song Tepo Beach

Song Tepo Beach is located on Ceningan Island, connected to Lembongan by the iconic yellow bridge. You can reach the beach in around 10 minutes by bike from most major resort areas in Lembongan.

The unusual beach is unlike the others on this list, with calm shallow waters and marsh-like sand leading out to the seaweed farms sitting between the two islands. It’s not really a place for sunbathing or swimming. But at low tide, you can take a stroll across the beach to snap a photo on one of the famous swings along the coast.

At high tide, the sand is mostly covered. But you can still make the most of the many cafes and bars along the waterfront. Most cafes have pools, swings, and hammocks for enjoying a peaceful drink overlooking the water. It’s also in a great location for watching the sunset each evening.
