We Visited Bali in November: Here's Our Advice

If you're thinking about visiting Bali in November, you've come to the right place. Having spent several Novembers in Indonesia over recent years, we've put together this guide so you know exactly what to expect.

Is November a Good Month To Visit Bali?

Being the start of rainy season, November isn't the best month to visit Bali, but it's not the worst either.

Bali is a year-round destination, so top attractions and hotels remain open as usual. Crowds start to wind down from September onwards, and by November, it's much quieter. The beaches are emptier, and the traffic around tourist areas is only mildly chaotic (an improvement from very chaotic).

There's a noticeable drop in hotel and flight prices during wet season, so your money will go a little further too.

It's also a good opportunity to see Bali's tropical landscapes at their best, including the many epic waterfalls and lush green jungles.

With the start of wet season comes a higher chance of rain and tropical storms. But it's not as bad as it sounds; downpours usually last a couple of hours. You can duck into a cafe while the rain passes, then once it clears, continue enjoying your day in the sun.

For us, planning around rain showers has never impacted our adventures too much, since we tend to stay flexible anyway. But if this is your once-in-a-lifetime trip or your only annual vacation, we recommend visiting during dry season to make the most of your time on the island.

What’s the Weather Like?

For context, Bali has a tropical climate with just two seasons: dry season (May to October) and wet season (November to April). Exactly when the wet season will kick in can vary from year to year, but November is a reasonable guess.

Some years, when we've visited during November, the wet season has been well underway with short rainstorms most afternoons. Whereas in other years, it's been a little cloudy with just occasional showers. So the answer is.... it depends.

Heat & Humidity

Temperatures in Bali remain similar year-round, with just a few degrees difference, according to the official stats:

In reality, it starts feeling warmer and stuffier in November as humidity creeps up, so the "feels like" temperature is more like 33°C (91°F). The increased humidity also brings more mosquito activity, so be vigilant with bug spray.

Temperatures are always cooler in the highlands, such as Munduk, Bedugul, and Kintamani, where an extra layer is usually needed in the evenings. But in coastal areas, you'll manage with summer wear throughout the day and night.

Rainfall

According to the stats, a typical November brings rain showers on 11 out of 30 days in coastal areas. Total rainfall for November is 116mm, compared to just 17mm in August (the driest month) and 260mm in January (the wettest month).

Despite the weather, you can still have an awesome time by following our tips for wet season in Bali. Our main advice is to remain flexible with your plans, keep a raincoat on hand, and have some indoor activities up your sleeve.

Just be mindful that Bali’s weather is extremely unpredictable. Occasionally during wet season, there are weeks with nonstop rain and flooding. While these are more likely to occur later in the season, it's still a possibility.
