Banyu Wana Amertha is a trail of four waterfalls in Northern Bali. The trail is named after the biggest and most impressive of the four, Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall.
You can find the trail in Wanagiri village in Bali's central highlands, just off the road between Bedugul and Munduk. We recently visited and have put together this guide so you know what to expect.

Where To Park
The parking area at Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall is suitable for both cars and scooters.
Here is a Google Maps pin for the parking area
The ticket counter is located in the parking area. You’ll need to purchase a waterfall ticket for 40,000 IDR and pay 2,000 IDR for parking. Both are cash only.
What’s The Trail Like

The walk from the parking area to the first waterfall takes about 20 minutes. The return walk from the final waterfall takes about 30 minutes.
We also spent just over an hour casually exploring the four waterfalls. So allow a good 2 hours for your visit in total.
The walk is through a beautiful wooded area where you can spot tropical fruits and colourful flowers growing alongside the path.
It’s not a difficult walk so it’s suitable for most people with an average level of mobility.
The incline is very gradual and the terrain is mostly paved slaps and concrete steps. But as you approach the waterfall, the path becomes quite muddy.
Emily and I both wore flip-flops and we managed okay. But it was a little muddy and slippy in places. If you have trainers or walking boots, we’d recommend wearing them.
If you want to cut out some of the walk, it’s possible to take a motorbike from the ticket counter down to the first waterfall. This costs 50,000 IDR for a round trip which includes pick-up from the final waterfall.
If you take the motorbike down, you will still need to walk between the waterfalls as there are steps that the bike can’t handle.

What To Expect

Banyu Wana Amertha is one of the lesser-known waterfall trails in Bali so you won’t encounter many other tourists along the route. It's a hidden gem and worth going to soon before the masses discover it.
There are toilets in the parking area (5,000 IDR) and near waterfalls 3 and 4 (donation-based). There are also a few vendors in between the waterfalls should you need to stock up on drinks or snacks.
Can you swim? Yes, you can swim in some of the waterfalls at Banyu Wana Amertha, but the water is cold up in the mountains so be prepared for a very refreshing dip.
Here are the four waterfalls you'll visit:
Waterfall 1 (Unnamed)

The first waterfall is probably the least impressive of the four, but it's en route to the second so it's still worth stopping by.
The single-stream waterfall flows over the front of a cave so you can walk behind it for some fun photos. While common in other countries, this is quite unique in Bali.
Note: The flow of water is very slow so the waterfall may not be visible during some parts of dry season when there is not much rain.
Waterfall 2 (Bhuana Sari)

The second waterfall is called Bhuana Sari and is probably the most photogenic of the four. Here, a huge wall of water sprawls over the rock face as several smaller streams with green foliage poking through the gaps.
There are two splash pools at the bottom separated by a rock ledge which you can walk along to get closer to the waterfall. There’s also a wooden canopy here to take shelter if it’s raining.
Waterfall 3 (Banyu Wana Amertha)

The third waterfall is actually called Banyu Wana Amertha and is where the name of the trail comes from. It's the biggest of the four and easily our favourite.
The water glides down the cliff face in two, three, or four streams depending on how much rain there has been.
You'll get a good view of this waterfall from the path, but follow the steps around to reach the bottom where a small bridge makes a fantastic photo spot.
The splash pool here is the best spot for swimming. So long as you can bear the crisp mountain water.
If you're not planning on swimming, be prepared to get damp from the waterfall mist. There’s a reason it has the nickname "the spray waterfall."
Waterfall 4 (Unnamed)

The fourth waterfall sits directly to the right of the third waterfall and is almost like a mini replica.
This waterfall has a twin stream of water that plunges over the cliff into the same splash pool. You can see both three and four from the same spot.
