Banyumala Waterfall is located in Northern Bali, between Munduk and Bedugul. The waterfall is also known as Banyumala Twin Waterfalls as it cascades down the cliff in two distinct streams.
The waterfall is between 20-30m tall (no official height given) with the water cascading down the incline of the cliff in multiple streams rather than a dramatic single drop. It's among our favourite waterfalls in northern Bali and is relatively easy to reach.
After several visits to this waterfall during our travels around Bali, we’ve put together this guide explaining exactly how to get there and what to expect from the trail.

Where To Park

Visiting By Car:
If you’re visiting by car, you’ll need to park at one of two car parking areas halfway down the road to the waterfall. Cars would be unable to drive down to the ticket office. The parking charge is 2,000 IDR ⓘ.
Here is a Google Maps pin for the car parking.
From here, you can then walk to the ticket counter which takes around 10 minutes along a paved path, although it is steep in places. Alternatively, you can take a taxi bike which costs 25,000 IDR ⓘ each way.
Visiting By Scooter:
If you are visiting by scooter, you can drive right down to the ticket counter, provided you are comfortable with steep roads. The parking charge for scooters is also 2,000 IDR ⓘ.

What’s The Trail Like

From the ticket counter, it’s roughly an 8 minute walk to reach the waterfall.
The path down to the waterfall is mostly concrete steps, some of which can be quite steep. There are also sections with mud/gravel paths.
Overall, the walk down to the waterfall is suitable for anyone with an average level of mobility. There are handrails and plenty of places to take a break. We saw people of all ages and fitness levels attempting it.
Included with your entry fee is an optional walking stick which you can collect from the trail entrance and return at the end. We recommend that you take one as it will be much sturdier than the bamboo handrail that runs alongside the steps.
*Update: According to a reader who visited in Nov 2024, walking sticks were no longer provided.
What Should I Wear? It’s okay to wear flip-flops to visit Banyumala Twin Waterfall as it’s a well-trodden path. However, it can get slippy after rainfall so trainers would be better. Emily and I both wore flip-flops down but Emily switched to trainers for the walk back up.

What To Expect

The entrance fee for the waterfall is 50,000 IDR ⓘ. This also includes a bottle of water, use of a walking stick, and a cute little homemade bracelet to take home with you.
*Update: According to a reader who visited in Nov 2024, these extras were no longer provided with the ticket.
The waterfall itself is a twin waterfall that cascades down the cliff in two distinct parts. There is no official height although various estimates place it somewhere between 20-30m tall.
Two bridges run across the river in front of the waterfall. The smaller bridge is a little run-down but makes a great photo spot (with the photographer standing on the other bridge).

Overall, we recommend allowing about 45 minutes to visit this waterfall in total. Add an extra 20 minutes if you are visiting by car to allow for walking from the car park to the ticket counter.
Banyumala is open year-round. As with all waterfalls, it’s more impressive after rainfall, but this also means that the path down can be more slippery. We have visited this waterfall several times and it has never been too busy, so there is no best or worst time of day to visit.
Can I Swim? Yes, you can swim in the splash pool beneath Banyumala waterfall. There's a changing room and a toilet at the bottom of the waterfall. Being in a mountainous area and sheltered from the sun means that the water here is quite cold. It’s very refreshing though! Bring water shoes if you have them as the bottom is pretty rocky.

Make sure you fully explore the area around the waterfall. Just a couple of minutes walk away is another series of small waterfalls which are often missed.
There are toilets both near the ticketing office and by the base of the waterfall. Bring small change (2,000 IDR) as a donation for using the facilities. You may also want to bring your own tissues.
