Uluwatu is one of Bali's top beach destinations, known for its stunning ocean views, soft white sands, and world-class surf scene. And what better way to kick off a day of relaxing in the sun or hitting the waves than with a delicious and nutritious breakfast or brunch!?

There's no shortage of cute cafes and stylish brunch spots in Uluwatu to start your day off right, serving everything from colourful smoothie bowls to perfectly plated avocado toast and hearty breakfast burgers.

Over the last few years, we've eaten at all of the area's top foodie hotspots. And after a lot of debate, we narrowed down our favourite places for the best brunch in Uluwatu.

1. The Loft

The-Loft-Uluwatu.jpg

The Loft is our go-to brunch spot every time we're in Uluwatu thanks to its lively yet casual atmosphere and fantastic variety of creative brunch dishes.

The airy, loft-like cafe has plenty of seating and is a popular hangout spot among Uluwatu's cool local crowd, with cosy sofa areas and long communal tables perfect for making new friends.

For the ultimate hangover cure, try the bagel with bacon and eggs, or enjoy the unique flavors of the holy potato rosti (Kieren's fave). If we're craving something a little more nutritious, we'll usually go for the veggie-packed pumpkin salad. Or if you have a sweet tooth, the Loft Waffles are a must-try.

The brunch menu is available until 6pm every day - perfect for late risers like us! The Loft also has plenty of vegan and gluten-free options.

The Loft sits just across the road from Hatch, where Uluwatu's popular weekend market takes place every Sunday. Brunch + market = ultimate weekend combo!

2. Gooseberry Restaurant

Gooseberry-Uluwatu-restaurant-pool.jpg

Gooseberry is one of our all-time favourite restaurants in Uluwatu. The trendy and sophisticated French restaurant does a fantastic all-day menu, but we particularly love coming by for their delicious brunch.

The stylish spot is perfect for a breakfast date or a cute girls' brunch. You can choose between the air-conditioned interior or the sun-soaked terrace, complete with a pool for a post-brunch dip. Don't worry if you forget your swimsuit; you can pick up a new one from the on-site boutique.

The breakfast menu includes a small selection of French-inspired dishes, including delicious croissants, a fluffy French omelette soufflé, brioche eggs Benedict, gourmet cheese toasties, and decadent French toast.

Enjoy an Instagram-worthy caffeine boost with their coconut espresso cloud, or turn things up a notch with a morning mimosa, bloody mary, or espresso martini.

While prices at Gooseberry are slightly above average for Uluwatu, the quality food and stunning setting make it a splurge-worthy experience. Just remember that breakfast finishes here at midday (last order 11:45) so don't turn up too late and miss out.

3. Suka Espresso

Suka-Espresso-Uluwatu.jpg

Part of the popular Bali restaurant collective By/Suka, Suka Espresso is a modern Australian-style cafe right in the heart of Uluwatu.

The cool open-air cafe is known for its amazing specialty coffee, which is roasted in-house using beans from across Indonesia and South America. Their famous Suka Iced Coffee is perfect for a hot day in the Bali sun.

Pair your coffee with one of their fantastic breakfast and brunch dishes, from nutritious smoothie bowls to an indulgent big breakfast plate.

The avocado toast is one of the best in Uluwatu, while their 55k breaky specials offer unbeatable value for money. Or if you're in more of a lunch mood, the chicken katsu sando is one of the By/Suka brand's signature dishes - and my favourite!

Suka is one of the most popular brunch spots in Uluwatu, so it's best to arrive early or you may have to wait in line for a table.

Love coffee? BGS is where you'll find our favourite coffee in Uluwatu. Unfortunately, they don't offer much food (hence not making it onto this list), but their two Uluwatu coffee shops are ideal for picking up a quick pre-surf caffeine fix.

4. Nourish

Now with two locations in Uluwatu, Nourish is an all-day cafe that focuses on serving delicious, nutrient-rich foods using organic locally sourced ingredients.

With its laid-back vibe, delicious food, and affordable prices, it's somewhere we find ourselves returning to regularly at all times of day (keep an eye out for the dinner deals!).

Nourish's brunch menu is available until 4pm every day and features all of the classic brekkie favouries; avo toast, omelette, eggs benny, pancakes, and waffles. Go healthy with a nutrient-packed fruit or veggie bowl, or opt for one of their indulgent freshly baked pastries with your coffee instead.

Both Uluwatu cafes also have their own wholefoods stores where you can stock up on your favourite gourmet organic products to take home.

5. Alchemy Uluwatu

Alchemy-Uluwatu-1.jpg

Having established itself as Bali's first health-conscious vegan hotspot in Ubud, Alchemy decided to bring its famous "food as medicine" ethos down to Uluwatu's Bingin neighbourhood.

With a commitment to taking care of both its customers and Mother Earth, the large open-air cafe has an entirely plant-based (and mostly gluten-free) menu. The kitchen only uses natural and organic ingredients that are either raw or gently cooked to ensure their food is as fresh and full of nutrients as possible.

For a healthy breakfast in Uluwatu, we love creating our own smoothie bowls from the cafe's colourful breakfast bar, which has a huge selection of fruits, granolas, and yoghurts to pick from. There's also a small all-day breakfast menu. Kieren was pleasantly surprised by the vegan pancakes (we're not vegan, FYI).

Plus, complete your breakfast with a nourishing superfood juice, probiotic-packed kombucha, or medicinal mushroom chickory coffee. Alchemy even offers personalised juice cleanses if you're sticking around in Uluwatu for a while.

6. Tanah Bakery

Tanah is a spacious cafe and artisanal bakery hidden just off the main road of Jalan Uluwatu. After driving past it numerous times, we thought it was about time to drop in, and we were so glad we did.

The cafe is now one of our absolute favourite places in Uluwatu for fantastic coffee and amazing homemade pastries. The pain au chocolate was perfectly flakey with a warm and gooey chocolate centre. There's also a counter with plenty of freshly baked breads, tarts, and cakes - it's hard to resist!

They also have an a la carte menu with breakfast classics, including Kieren's favourite, the egg and bacon muffin. The large cafe has lots of seating and doesn't get too busy in the morning, so it's a great place to stick around for a while to read or work without feeling like you're holding up a table.

7. Drifters Surf Cafe

Drifters is one of the top hangouts for Uluwatu's surf crowd, with an on-site shop selling premium surf gear, cool vintage apparel, and amazing original artworks. But once you're done browsing the store, head outside to find the charming garden cafe surrounded by lush greenery.

Drifter's breakfast menu strikes a perfect balance between healthy and hearty, with plenty of filling veggie-packed dishes to fuel those with an active lifestyle.

I went for the avocado smash and would definitely recommend (the cashew dukkah was a great touch), while Kieren's breakfast burrito was gernously packed with tasty scrambled eggs, black beans, paprika potato, and guacamole.

Most dishes at Drifters are vegan or vegetarian, while a handful contain fish or seafood. Meat-lovers will have to look elsewhere.

8. Baked.

Baked-Uluwatu.jpg

Now with multiple locations in Uluwatu, Canggu, and Seminyak, BAKED. is a popular Bali bakery known for its homemade sourdough bread, freshly baked pastries, and specialty coffee. It's a great spot to pop by for a flakey pastry and coffee to go before heading to one of the beautiful beaches nearby.

But we’ll let you in on a secret… it also does the BEST scrambled eggs on the island! So do yourself a favour and order the "best scramble." The silky and creamy scrambled eggs are a must-try, served with creme fraiche, brown butter, chives, and roe, plus freshly baked sourdough and optional sausage, bacon, or salmon.

Although we pretty much exclusively eat the eggs or pastries here, BAKED.'s small breakfast menu also features the likes of bagels, muffins, toast, and hotcakes.

9. Place With No Name

Place-With-No-Name-Uluwatu.jpg

Last but not least, The Place With No Name (yes that's its name) is another Uluwatu cafe specialising in pescatarian and vegetarian food - it's a common theme on the Bukit - while taking flavour inspiration from all across the world.

The tropical rattan-clad cafe is home to one of the best value breakfasts in Uluwatu, with their daily brekkie special featuring a nasi/mie goreng, banana pancakes, or a veggie brekkie and a juice or a hot drink for just 59,000 IDR .

The rest of their breakfast menu won't set you back much more than this either. The hashbrowns with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce is our favourite dish. Plus don't miss the fresh fruit salad which is served with yoghurt inside an actual coconut.

While maybe not the most gourmet breakfast offering, the food is cheap, cheerful, and delicious... what more could you want!?
