Ubud is known for its stunning natural beauty, historic temples, and deep-rooted spirituality. But did you know that it's also one of Bali’s top foodie destinations?

The popular tourist town is packed with charming cafes and restaurants, many of which offer a fantastic range of breakfast options to fuel you before a day exploring the lush landscapes of central Bali.

Whether you’re looking for classic brunches, wholesome plant-based options, or traditional Indonesian dishes, here are seven of our favourite cafes for breakfast and brunch in Ubud.

1. Zest

Ubud has become famous for its healthy and nutritious plant-based dining scene. And nowhere embodies this better than the town's most iconic cafe, Zest.

Sitting in the forest to the west of central Ubud, Zest is a cool bohemian spot that focuses on locally sourced whole foods and plant-based dishes.

You’ll find no animal products, refined sugar, or harmful oils. It's just vibrant, flavourful brunch dishes like fruit-packed smoothie bowls, creative stacked waffles and pancakes, and colourful medicine bowls bursting with fresh ingredients. We're not vegan, but even we love the food here!

With its laid-back hippy vibe (leave your shoes at the door!), cosy sofas, lush jungle views, free board games, and live music sessions, we often lose a few hours over a slow, leisurely brunch at Zest.

2. Tucky

Tucked away on a side street in the busy town center, Tucky is a hidden gem that’s quickly become one of our favourite brunch spots in Ubud.

The tiny Mediterranean-inspired cafe has a small but creative menu of artisanal sandwiches, loaded toasts, and fresh pastries, all of which pair perfectly with their fantastic specialty coffee.

Attention to detail is key here, and each of the brunch dishes bursts with unique flavours, using authentic European ingredients like pesto Genovese, tomato chutney, and olive tapenade. I tried the poached eggs and ham on brioche with pesto, and it's definitely one of the best things I've eaten in Ubud.

The stylish little cafe is compact and cosy, with only a handful of tables. But fortunately, it doesn't get too busy so you can usually get a seat. Don't visit too late in the day as they often sell out after lunch.

3. Milk & Madu

Milk & Madu is not only one of our favourite restaurants in Ubud, but it's also one of our most visited eateries in Bali, with branches also in Canggu, Uluwatu, and Seminyak.

The chic, modern spot, located close to Ubud Royal Palace in the town center, has an extensive breakfast menu served until 4pm daily. They offer everything from lighter options like chia bowls and overnight oats to hearty dishes such as egg benny and a huge breakfast burrito.

House special, "the Madu," is one of my favourite brunch dishes in Ubud, with poached eggs, avocado, bacon, onion jam and hollandaise on fresh sourdough.

Early risers can also enjoy Milk & Madu's weekday breakfast set - any dish, a coffee, and a juice for just 110,000 IDR — available from 7-10am Monday to Friday.

4. Alchemy

Located in the trendy Penestanan neighborhood of West Ubud, Alchemy was Bali’s first-ever health-conscious vegan hotspot. Known for its “food as medicine” ethos and sustainable practices, it's perfect for those wanting a nourishing breakfast in Ubud while also looking after Mother Earth.

The spacious, open-air cafe offers an entirely plant-based and gluten-free menu, with each dish crafted from natural, organic ingredients and overflowing with superfoods and healing herbs.

I love building my own smoothie bowl at their colourful breakfast bar. You can also create a hearty salad from the salad bar, enjoy a nutrient-packed poke bowl, or treat yourself to one of their delicious oven-baked plant-based pizzas.

Don't forget to complete your meal with a superfood juice, probiotic-rich kombucha, or mushroom chicory coffee. Your body will thank you for it later!

5. Pison Coffee

Pison Coffee is a large cafe and restaurant in southern Ubud with a cool industrial-chic decor and a spacious covered terrace overlooking a lush rice field.

The cafe is most famous for its fantastic specialty coffee, with beans sourced from across Indonesia and brewed to perfection. Whether you’re a fan of cold brew, espresso, or flat white, you’ll find something for you.

Their varied all-day brunch menu features a fusion of Western and Asian-inspired dishes made with locally sourced ingredients.

From fluffy pancakes topped with fresh berries (10/10 would recommend!) to savoury options like their signature eggs benedict and the extravagant lobster toast, there’s no going wrong with whatever you order.

6. Anomali Coffee

Sitting right on the busy main road of Jalan Raya Ubud, Anomali Coffee is another must-visit brunch cafe in Ubud for coffee lovers. The cafe is said to serve the best coffee in all of Ubud - and we may just have to agree.

Here, you can sample a diverse selection of single-origin Indonesian coffee blends, featuring local favorites like Bali’s own Kintamani beans alongside the distinctive flavours of Java and Sumatra.

And if you're hungry, you can pair your coffee with a delicious buttery croissant or one of the cafe's classic brunch dishes, from pancakes to avo toast and scrambled eggs.

7. Monsieur Spoon

No one does freshly baked pastries quite like the French, and luckily, Ubud has its very own authentic French bakery. Monsieur Spoon is a family-run bakery chain with stores all across Bali and Indonesia, started by two Parisian cousins in 2012.

Their spacious Ubud store, which is located close to the Monkey Forest, has a fantastic range of high-quality handmade French pastries, cakes, artisan bread, and savoury treats. Their croissants are a must-try, and the freshly baked baguette is some of the best bread on the island.

You can also order from the all-day menu, which features the likes of French toast, avocado bruschetta, quiche, bagels, and steak frites.
